1977 Dodge Tradesman B200 Bubble Top Van RV This versatile example of ‘The Grooving 1970’s’ is a ‘surfer’s dream’. It has a State of California RV “California Department of Housing and Development” sticker (including serial number), so I would think it’s possible to be registered in CA (or elsewhere) as an RV which means significantly cheaper insurance, registration and being able to enjoy a cold adult beverage just about anywhere…but please do your own homework regarding your local laws. What I am sure of is this is a classic Dodge van that runs, drives, and tracks great. The strong 360 (4v) V-8 fires quickly, runs soooo smooth and easy. It does not overheat nor is it a 'leaker.' It has barely left a drop in its current spot after almost two months of inactivity. It is overall in ‘very sound’ mechanical condition and recently made several ‘San Diego to Arizona’ trips without issue. Engine has an Edelbrock performance intake, performer carb, and full dual exhaust with glass pack mufflers... true 'old school.' Exhaust has an authoritative rumble without being intrusive or loud. Wheels are authentic American Racing Wheels. Front tires are basically new while the rears are needing replacement sooner than later. I wouldn’t hesitate an extended drive so long as you do understand this is a 1977 and not a 2007. The Bubbletop raised roof provides over 5’ of clearance inside which permits easy and comfortable movement. Stow your equipment, atv, motorcycle, or surfboard inside and safely out of view. Relax on the big back seat and enjoy a cold beverage almost anywhere if registered as an RV. When the day is done, there is a plenty of room between the front and back seats (6’6” x 5’6”) of soft, comfortable carpet to rest and recharge your batteries with plenty of room to stow additional gear. Interior: The interior is in good overall condition. The rear seat and front seats are clean, the vinyl soft and showing only minimal (if any) wear. The carpet is of high quality and looks good. It is thick and comfortable and very tight ‘nap,’ so is easy to clean. Interior has no funny smells (including smoke). The roof does not leak that I've ever seen (I live in San Diego, not Seattle). The doors align very nicely and operate without issue. All doors lock properly and unlock with the key. The rear windows open (out), there is a RV style roof vent above the rear seating area. The interior would be an easy restoration with a few bits of insulation and paneling to taste. The yellow fabric along the top sides is soft and satiny and I believe the original material. It it is pretty nice shape and very presentable. Body: The body is in very nice shape for the age and has its original paint without any serious damage of evidence of repair or touch-ups. The only rust of note is the rear drip edge between the fiberglass bubble and the van, mostly above the rear doors (see pic). I did have it looked at by a professional shop and they quoted about one day of professional attention to 'do it right.' Otherwise, this is a California/Arizona native and the body is almost free of corrosion. The underbody is in great shape as well. As noted, the paint is the factory paint and graphics, so feel good about what you see is what you're getting. Also, just to clarify... That is old carpet glue and primer, NOT RUST seen in some of the pics showing the door thresholds. This van body is incredibly sound other than what has been noted. **I am confident it could be CA smogged without much issue or expense as it requires very little smog equipment (I believe only a charcoal canister). Parts are readily available and inexpensive as there were a bazillion dodges over the years with the same equipment and probably 50 of them in a junkyard near you. It is however being sold ‘as-is’ and as an AZ vehicle with a clean AZ title. I will make reasonable effort to assist with shipper pick-up. So, this old van is in sound mechanical shape needing only minimal attention. The only mechanical issue of note is the rear tires which is a cheap and easy fix and the typical gremlins that come with almost forty years of living. Overall, this is a nice road worthy classic. Enjoy as is, restore, or modify to your taste and needs. Anyway, it’s quite a cool old Van awaiting your ‘new’ good times. Details: The American Racing Wheels and Tires on the van ARE included in the auction. The additional set in the pictures inside the van ARE NOT included in the auction. The surfboard pictured (in the van) is almost 11 feet long is not included. Van can hold almost a 12 footer in the overhead surfboard cubby. There is a small chip in the passenger headlight bezel area of the grill. There is a very nice oem grill included with the van as seen in the pictures There are new tail-light bezels and upgraded chrome bezel trims in the rear door (inside)The reserve is set low.
