Vehicle Detail
Relisted due to previous buyers non payment and inability to meet terms as stated This is a very unique and rare Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia with the factory 1.6 liter DIESEL, 4 speed manual transmission It's been sitting 3 years ~ not started in the last year. It was parked due to the clutch pedal going to the floor. Previous owner replaced the clutch master cylinder to no avail. Figured out later that it was the clutch slave leaking but he never fixed it as he wasn't using it and just put it off. It was started regularly until the battery went flat last year. Previous owner gutted the interior [except for a swivel table and the front cab is all intact] to build it the way he wanted but it never got done. The Wesfalia tent is there, fully operational and in decent condition ~ could use some sewing as shown.I bought it as a project and with much enthusiasm, I ordered a clutch slave cylinder in anticipation of getting it going. We started cleaning it all up from sitting. Color variations are from my waxing/buffing those areas, just messing around with it. I prepared to start it by bleeding the injectors but while my son cranked it I noticed a nick/start of a tear [see photo] in the timing belt under the timing cover. It almost started but I removed the timing cover to take a closer look and decided rather than chance it I'd order a new belt and tensioner before cranking/starting it again. I have them but not installed and they are included, along with the new clutch slave cylinder. During cleaning it up, I took the Westfalia front fiberglass cargo section off for cleaning and started to clean and refinish the back half of the Westfalia top as shown. I wanted to see what it looked like with a color matching the Assuan Brown body color paint so I got a close match and sprayed it. I like it better than the white Westfalia top but I'd rather not have the Westfalia because we wouldn't use it for camping anyway. The top will need some sanding and repainted but it's solid with no leaks and an easy job with boat refinishing coating.Tires were new 3 years ago and still look good since it was mostly kept indoors. Very little rust. There's a little on the lower seam below the camper hook-ups which is typical because the seal on those hook-ups covers tended to get brittle and leak. There's also a slight scrape on the passenger sliding door and rear wheel opening lip. I prepped and painted the area around the windows black on the drivers side so when I dark tinted the windows it would look right. I only got the very rear section of the passenger side primed then it got too cold and well...... This is your classic project that got sidelined case and rather than let it get left sitting up again, I'd rather sell it to someone who will bring it back to life. You could have this Vanagon going in a weekend. I have the new parts which are included. This is a perfect project for wide variety on people such as a VW lover a VW Van/Bus enthusiast, campers, a surfer, doomsday preppers, living down by the river in a van types, living off the grid types or for saving $ by converting it to use bio diesel. Don't miss your chance to own this rare Vanagon DIESEL! SERIOUS INQUIRIES/BIDS ONLY PLEASE. I'm easy to get along with but really have no tolerance for nonsense. Please read my terms before committing to bid/offer. I'll have some time as we get into Spring to get it up and on going down the road but the price will go way up so get it now while you can afford it. Thank You!
