Vehicle Detail
I would like by apologizing to the bidders and watchers for taking this listing down. I had too many people write to me saying I was in the wrong category, e-bay agreed and I was credited to relist. I thank those people for alerting me as I had posted the listing at a spur of the moment and was not aware of the fact. It actually worked out well considering my daughter was able to join me in relisting it. This car was a part of an estate I recently purchased out in San Bernardino county back in April. The property owner bought the car brand new from a local dealer in 1965. I was told by her son that she used it to go to the grocery store every now and then, babied it (even saved the original window sticker) and put it on non-operational status with the department of motor vehicle before parking it in the driveway under a carport in 1988, when she was no longer able to drive. The car had been parked in the same spot for over twenty five years till I moved it. The car has the original mileage of 47769, she actually held on to a Kmart air cleaner lid in the glove box, that I assume she had replaced with the date and mileage logged (43936 - 4/19/84). The body of the car is super straight, all the nuts and bolts seem to be all factory installed. So I don't believe it was ever in an accident. The car is all original with the exception of the front bench seat which seems to have been reupholstered at some point in time. The rear seat had no tears on the bottom till we sat on it (they were brittle from aging). I decided to surprise my sixteen year old daughter that just started driving. She was super excited to participate in the restoration and even named it Mr. Rambler. So I registered it, insured it and sent the car off to the mechanic. (who by the way said it was a pleasure to work on cause all the parts he replaced were pretty much factory original). Why we are listing the car.... A couple of months back a friend of mine was in need of money and gave me a great deal on his 2002 BMW (can be seen in the pictures). So as soon as I brought the car home my Sweetheart had a change of heart as soon as she saw the convertible "Beamer" as she calls it. So I couldn't say no. The Rambler was supposed to go to the body shop and the upholsterer, before her "new" car came into the picture and she lost interest in Mr. Rambler. I would really like to see this car go to someone who will appreciate it and continue from where we left off. An all original unmolested classic car in this condition is hard to come by. The mechanical's have already been done and the car drives beautifully. All that's left is very minor fixes and the cosmetics (paint & interior). Another words this would be perfect for a family or an individual looking for a light classic car restoration project. Here's what we have done to it... The gas tank was pulled, flushed and coated (have pictures of what the gas in it looked like after 25 years) it was orange sludge. Fuel lines were cleaned (an external fuel filter was added just as a precaution along with the new original filter ) Engine was flushed All new cap, rotor, points, condenser, spark plugs, plug wires, hoses, belts, filters, fluids Radiator was pulled, flushed and rebuilt to a three core Master brake cylinder, all wheel cylinders, brake hardware, brake shoes, brake lines and wheel bearings Transmission mount replaced Four new shocks and tires All the original parts that were replaced were saved in the trunk. The car runs and drives excellent, very fun to drive, gets a lot of thumbs up. What still needs to be done..... The dash instrument panel needs a few light bulbs and the contacts (most likely corroded from sitting) to be cleaned for the fuel and temperature gauge to function and there is one crack behind the heater knob on the plastic panel (see pic). The transmission pan gasket and filter should be replaced (I purchased one on e-bay new in the box and in the trunk). There is a very minor gasket leak. Paint and interior. There is one dent in the passenger side rocker panel (see pic) There is one dent on the rear bumper (see pic) There is rust damage on the passenger side cowl and rust is starting in the trunk (see pic). The right side of the car was exposed to the elements for all those years under the carport. So all in all this is a beautiful original 1965 AMC Rambler American base model (no factory stereo or a/c) with a 3.2L 196ci. OHV (over head valve) straight 6cyl that would make excellent and economical classic daily commuter or weekend cruiser. My daughter and I would be very happy to see it go to a good home. There is no reserve so the highest bidder will own this beauty. The winner can fly in from anywhere in the nation and drive it home. Please ask any questions that you might have and may the best man or woman win this classic. On Dec-19-13 at 18:24:44 PST, seller added the following information: On Dec-21-13 at 10:14:31 PST, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention that the muffler on the car is original and will need to be replaced at some point too. It is not very loud but in need of replacement. I was quoted $60.00 from a local muffler shop a few months ago but did not have the opportunity to go back to drop off the car. I will credit the winning bidder $100.00 due to the fact that it was my mistake. Thank you.
