If you know these Dodges…you’ll know what I mean as you read through this ad. My personal truck is an ’01 QCLB, so I know these trucks very well. I also know where to look at them to see if there are any issues…and this one only has three of the “common” issues as far as I can tell (and only one of them is what I’d consider major; the other two are simple cosmetics). First, the dashboard. It’s cracked and coming apart, which is normal for this generation. You can get a new cap for it online for under $200, and have it looking like new in no time. I’m getting ready to do that to my own truck before too long – no matter how well you take care of them, they all crack. Second is, the paint lift on the hood and roof, which is definitely common on trucks from this era. Finally, the person who traded it to us says the transmission is going out (he traded it on a stickshift Cummins we had in stock). I drove this truck. I drove it hard. Tried to abuse it as much as I could. Because of time, I couldn’t drive it for hours and hours to heat up the transmission, but I was as “not-nice” to it as I could be for as long as possible…and the only thing I noticed was a couple of stuttering downshifts as I slowed for stop signs. Upshifts were crisp and clean, there are no noises, power kickdown-downshifts are crisp, and nothing seems to be slipping. Move the lever from one gear to another, and it shifts just like it should. The fluid is nice and pink (see photos)…but it does smell a little burnt so my jury is out on this one. Could it be going bad? Yes. Does it seem to run just fine right now? Also yes. Is this the reason we have such a low price on a rust-free Cummins? Absolutely. It could last a few hundred miles…or a few hundred thousand…but you get to save a ton of money now, either way. And it really is pretty rust-free. There is a single spot on the doorjamb on each side that you can see in the photos. The bottoms of the doors look nice – some surface rust on the inner surface but nothing coming through to the exterior yet. Fenders and bed sides look good. Frame is solid, although it has typical surface rust (scotch-brite and some spray undercoat would take care of that for you). No holes. Only one or two small dings. The worst part about the exterior is the “Chrysler Paint Peel” on the hood and roof. No holes in those areas, no loose bits…just not all that pretty. Mechanically, it really does run like a champ. That BD turbo spools up nicely, makes a great noise (I love that turbo whistle!), and the truck really gets up and goes when you give it the boot. It has upsized injectors, too – it definitely rolls smoke when you punch it, I just don’t have any information on what size is in it. The engine has great oil pressure, the temp is stable, it doesn’t make any bad noises, power is even and predictable just like it should be, and I don’t see any evidence of tuners so I think it’s a safe bet this one will go for another 260k miles as long as you take care of it. It runs strong. The steering is nice and tight – it has the steering brace for the “anti-death-wobble”, and the ride is nice with what look like newer shocks. It may need some bushings under the front end, because over some washboard roads I did hear a clunk or two but nothing major (or surprising, considering the mileage). The 4x4 does work like it should, I made sure to take it on gravel and check it out. The 4wd light on the dash stays on even in 2wd, but the actual transfer case and axles work like they should. You can chase the wiring…or just pull the bulb. We have not inspected this truck for Maryland – we don’t have to, to know it won’t pass. Bumper height, tire size, 4x4 light…MD is picky, and for the price we’re selling it for we simply can’t get it through inspection ($120/hour times however many hours and parts it took to get it to pass…it would all go right onto the price tag and we wouldn’t be able to offer it for such a great price!). It’s a paperwork issue, not a “bad truck” issue…but it keeps Maryland buyers from bidding. Sorry, but this one has to go out of state. If you want a workhorse, for not a lot of money…you found it. Even if (and I do say “IF”) you have to rebuild the transmission, you’re still in a serious, basically-indestructible, towing-and-hauling machine for less than ten grand total (depending on how much you spend on a transmission). Some detailing, maybe a quick trip to Maaco to dress it up a bit outside, and a little TLC…and you’ll have a really NICE truck. It may not be perfect…but it’s a great price on a nice truck with a bulletproof engine and a lot of nice upgrades. You can tow just about anything you need to; get great fuel mileage; and know it’ll last you for years and years and years. Please click HERE to visit my FAQ page for answers to common questions. If you like one of my items…click the button. When one of my listings disappears, it means you waited too long to click, and someone else came on the lot and bought it. My eBay units are the very same units I have on my retail lot…just cheaper. Since I get them listed as soon as they come on the lot (sometimes before we even clean them!), I can get discounts on them because we haven’t done anything to them. That’s the best time to buy – we’ve already spent money trading (buying) the unit, so I can’t give them away for free, but my bidders get to buy before we spend any more money cleaning, tinkering, fixing, or sealing. And in my ads, I’ll tell you if a unit needs any cleaning, tinkering, fixing, or sealing…and you get to make the decision – is it worth buying it now, and cleaning/tinkering with it myself, so I can save all this money? Or do I want to wait until the price goes up, because they did all this stuff to it for their retail lot? I’m a straight shooter in my ads. I don’t hide issues. I don’t “forget” details. I work in the industry, so I know what I’m looking at and I know what to look for. I write honest listings and I sell units for a great price. I hit my boss up for every discount we can find before I write the ad – usually thousands of dollars off our lot price. I price for cash buyers, but there’s a link to our credit application in the bright green box if you need financing. You get a great unit…and you save money! So if you like a unit…and you like the price I have it listed for here on eBay…and you want to save some money because you can do some cleaning and tinkering on your own…click that button before someone else clicks it, before someone comes on the lot and sees how nice it is and buys it, and before my shop starts doing work to it and driving the price up. If you want us to clean it, or re-seal it, or tinker with it for you…let me know how much or how little you want us to do, and I’ll be happy to get a time and price quote for you. We can do it all. The reason we don’t for my eBay items is strictly time, and budget – the more we do, the longer it takes and the more it costs…and I’m trying to SAVE YOU SOME MONEY so you can get your new purchase for as little money as possible, and as quickly as possible. If you have any questions about how we sell our eBay units, check out the FAQ’s page in our eBay store. If your question isn’t answered there, send me an email and I can get you the answer you need.
