Vehicle Detail
1964 Porsche 356 SC Coupe with matching numbers and additional “Maestro” engine Carefully maintained and regularly driven matching number 1964 Porsche 356 SC with two engines. Most recent restoration and paint between 15-20 years ago in California; could use eventual repaint and some rubber replacement around the windows. There are no bubbles in the paint, but of note is paint crazing around the driver side headlight as well as stone chips in paint along edge of hood. In addition, paint crazing and stone chips are visible on the front hood, near the bumper. Includes documentation showing chain of ownership since new (I appear to be the third owner) and have owned and enjoyed this car for 10 years. Drives great and has a current Massachusetts inspection sticker. Everything in the SC works, including the lights, wipers, horn, radio and clock. A “C” tachometer is installed, rather than the “SC” model. The interior lights work sometimes and the heat is not currently connected, although the two cans and levers underneath the car, which connect to the heating system, function. Both entry doors close with that beautiful “thunk” sound. Originally California car now located in Massachusetts. Always garaged in Massachusetts and never driven in winter weather. The tires should be replaced. There is no visible rust on the underside of the car and visual inspections are welcomed; please schedule in advance. This car is ready to go as a daily driver and always receives appreciative looks of admiration and frequent questions about its life story when taken on the road. Why am I selling such an ideal car? In my pursuit of health, I have taken up bicycle riding and any day in Massachusetts that is perfect for taking out the Porsche is also perfect for bike riding. Note that the similarity between bicycling and driving the Porsche is that both activities are air cooled! However, the Porsche is no longer driven as regularly as it deserves to be, and I am looking to pass the car on to an appreciate driver who will keep it on the road for years to come. Included in this auction are the original black California license plates from the early 1960’s, and last used in 1995, as shown in the images. Matching engine number and chassis number also shown in images. Ø VIN 216317 Ø Engine Serial Number P*810863* Ø Engine Type 616/16, which indicates SC engine Ø Engine Case 72743 Also included in this auction is a Maestro Harry Pellow Super 356B engine with gold plate option, which currently has an estimated 50,000 miles. The gold plate option must be seen to be fully appreciated and includes a gold plated oil dip stick which, although shown among the images, is even more striking in person. It is a sight to behold! The Maestro completely rebuilt this engine, P*706098*, from top to bottom in the late 1980s, and it comes with documentation of his rebuild, including letters from The Maestro himself. The Maestro’s Super 356B engine with gold plate option is currently installed in the Porsche 356 SC, where it runs strongly and reliably, and idles very smoothly around 600 RPM, while emitting harmonious and sweet sounds from the muffler. A new clutch disk and pressure plate have been installed about 5000 miles ago. The original and matching engine, P*810863*, is included in the sale. Currently it is undergoing repair of a leaking oil cooler, caused by a broken mounting tab. Prior to be taken out of service, the engine ran strong, without issues, for the initial six months after I took ownership. All sheet metal for this engine has been stripped, cleaned, and repainted, as shown in the images. All hardware is also included. The now deceased Don Marks, of Gearhead, Co., rebuilt included Solex carburetors as well as the distributor, which are pictured and ready to install. Original paperwork from Don included. Since removal from the car, the original engine has been stored in a dry basement and the flywheel has been rotated every month. This engine remains out of the car as it still needs the following: · New muffler, gasket set · Cleaned or new oil cooler (will include two spare oil coolers and original with broken tab. The history of spares is unknown) · Rebuild of generator (just to be safe) · Fuel lines to Solex carburetors (I will include old set) · Assembly of SC sheet metal, Solex carbs, wires, heater boxes, etc. (Should be a fun project) I have tried to give an accurate and fair description of the 1964 Porsche, listing its good and bad points. Please feel free to ask any additional questions or for additional images, or to arrange an inspection of the car. This car and its spare engine are sold AS IS and no warranty or guarantee is offered or provided in any way. Following the winning bid, a non-refundable deposit of $1000 is due from the buyer within 24 hours. Final and complete payment is due via bank check within seven days. While I’m willing to provide necessary assistance, transportation of the sold vehicle is the sole responsibility of the winning bidder/buyer.
