1971 VW Bus Transporter Van this is about the most sought after year bus for collectors for this generation (ft disc brakes / and more...) This VW has been in Arizona, the desert environment its whole life and never seen snow, and rain ? ...its the desert folks. That said, I cant find any bondo or real signs of any rust other then some surface here and there on the whole vehicle front to back (and underneath as youll see in all the pics below.) Even the battery area is pretty damn clean. Shows 75 on the odometer, good chance its turned over, but the last owner did tell me the motor was redone about 25k miles ago. Has been a nice drive off and on for the last 10 yrs as a 2nd vehicle. Get in and it starts right up and runs well too. Drive it around and other then cosmetics, its a good running Bus that would restore nicely without a ton of work like most I see out there. Making this Bus affordable to buy and you can use it as a driver, or restore it like factory, or put your own twist on it. This is prob about 3rd Bus we have sold on ebay this yr and the last 2 did go back to Germany with great feedback (like all our cars) Its obviously not a show car, but its a SOLID platform to start with. Drivetrain: the original motor the best I can tell. Starter is recent, and the last owner said he had the motor rebuilt about 25k miles ago. Clutch / trans etc feel normal and work well. Suspension feels typical for a Van this old for a daily driver. No signs of any major problems underneath it all either. Hit the key (currently not mounted in the original pocket) and it starts right up. We rebuilt the carb, and as is it really runs great. I wouldnt hesitate to drive it anywhere locally. It could possibly make a road trip, but the tires although lots of tread, are getting a little dry. I think I have the spare for it, but we are looking for it. If I find it, Ill toss it in. INTERIOR: The front factory Bench Seat is a pretty rare option not seen too often in these VWs, Az has been hard on the original leatherette interior, rubber and vinly. No back bench seat installed Was used for camping like most of these over the years. Back was converted somewhat to sleeping area when I got it. Floors are solid in the back , found one patch on the pass side front floor. Would be easy to restore. I did see some side curtain rod things on some of the side windows that could be original. The side door wont open. Prob not a hard fix I just havent had time to look at it yet. EXTERIOR: The Neptune blue paint could be original, not sure the 2 tone could be stock. No signs of bondo or repairs anywhere and the body is extremely straight front to back. Paint is baked by the Az sun and the very back area looks like it got the worst of it, but again its very complete and wouldnt take much to restore it back to its glory. This car is 99% rust free Arizona van. There you have it, probably The BEST represented VW Buses on Ebay. Shows you all the good as well as any bad, hope you appreciate them. We put a lot of time and effort in marketing our cars and it shows. People wait months for a car this solid to come up for sale and even if you have to pay shipping to your area, it still beats paying a body shop to hopefully fix a rusty car for weeks on end. Having as much as the original steel on a restored car these days speaks volumes. Also, if you buy a car thats been "restored", who knows what sort of surprises are hidden under new paint or thick undercoating.
