Vehicle Detail
This Auction is for a 1976 Honda CB500T Twin. This is a one owner vehicle and has been cared for by only one professional for the last 32 years. My brother purchased this bike new, in Hanover New Hampshire, when he was teaching at Dartmouth. Commuted to work on dry days only. I have done all the maintenance over the 32 year time the bike has been here, in the Pacific Northwest. I have been the "storage facility" for the last 20+ years. My brother will never ride again so the decision was made to sell it. I have spent the last month detailing the bike. I have photo documentation of all the work completed. The motor did not come out of the frame. Most everything else was removed cleaned and detailed. I cleaned fasteners when available. They were not polished so to maintain some patina for the age of the bike. Some fasteners were replaced. This was not a restoration in any way. I thought it would be a good thing to clean and service the complete motorcycle within reason. All chrome was removed and cleaned. There is some minor pitting in the chrome due to the age of the machine. The exhaust system was completely disassembled, cleaned, and polished. The fenders and brackets were removed, cleaned, and polished. the rear fender underside showed some signs of grease and surface rust. That was all removed and cleaned. I removed and disassembled the rear shocks to properly clean the dampers and springs. Chrome on Honda springs was never a quality finish. These cleaned up remarkably well. Wheel spokes are in the same category as chrome springs. The spokes are presentable as is. Did I mention that this is not a restoration. The battery holder/hanger was removed, cleaned, stripped, and repainted. I also touched up some cosmetically weak areas of the frame. The tool kit (complete) was cleaned and detailed. This is a very nice detailed unit. All service work has been completed. I removed and disassembled the carbs. I use an Ultrasonic Cleaner to clean all carbs. All of the metering brass was inspected and cleaned. All carburetor orifices were cleaned and checked. The carbs are synced and the engine pulls 22 inches of vacuum at idle. The rest of the fuel system was disassembled, cleaned, and inspected. There is no rust in the fuel tank. I disassembled, cleaned, and inspected the front brake hydraulics. The rear brake shoes were removed from the backing plate. All rear brake components were cleaned, serviced, and properly assembled. I use Silkolene grease to lubricate all necessary high wear areas. The stock OEM drive chain was at the last of its adjustment. A new quality, OEM style (DID), non o-ring chain has been installed. The sprockets are in as new condition. I cleaned the swingarm and chain guard. I also removed the CS sprocket, clutch actuator, actuator rod, neutral switch and case cover to clean out years of chain lube and grease. The clutch actuator was disassembled, cleaned, and greased before re-installing into the case cover. This unit will also have a new "unjuiced" battery available at delivery. I have a battery that was purchased for this unit. It is over a year old. I installed Avon tires years ago. They have less than 100 miles on them. I checked the tires with a durometer. They are still soft and serviceable. The tires do show slight signs of weather checking. The right side muffler has a scrape low on the unit as shown in the photo. It was tipped over in a parking situation. (Never park a bike with the front tire pointing down hill. Novice mistake.) This bike is not absolutely showroom new. It has the normal elements of age. Primarily storage wear. It was put in an area of storage where it could not be readily accessed. It sported a cover for the majority of its life. The cover did its job and has been "decommissioned". Cables and lever points have been disassembled, cleaned and lubed. I will supply a CD with all photos taken during this process to the winning bidder, if so desired. This motorcycle comes with a clear Washington State Title. It also comes with the OEM keys. The bike is located about 35 miles north of Seattle, WA. I am willing to help facilitate delivery. That can be discussed and worked out prior to auction close. I work hard to accurately describe all auction items. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me prior to bidding.
