Relisting again. Before I begin, read the entire auction. Feel free to ask questions. Please have money in hand and how you are going to come and pick this up figured out. Hello, Here is something for all you dare to be different gearheads out there!! Up for auction today is my 1971 VW Super Beetle V8 project car. No reserve!! You bid, you win!! It was started many years ago, but has been sitting a long time with nothing getting done......so it's time to let it go to someone else. The vehicle has been stored indoors all this time. I have the Florida title in hand that was signed by the previous owner. I have never signed it myself or registered the vehicle in my name. The mileage listed is what is on the title. I doubt this is the original mileage. The speedometer is packed up and I don't remember what is on it. The VW was purchased in 1988 in Florida. There is NOT a V.I.N. number remaining that I can find. It was probably where the firewall was welded in. The frame DOES NOT have a V.I.N. that I can find. When speaking to my D.M.V. here in Virginia, they said that the car would have to be registered as a Constructed Vehicle and a number would be assigned when the vehicle was completed. You may want to check your state for their rules. The body is a 1971 Super Beetle that has had a Chevy Monza floor pan and firewall welded in. The trunk was also closed in with sheet metal. This is solid work done by a professional. It will still need some body and fabrication work done. The fuel filler on the front fender will need to be removed and a patch panel welded in. The engine compartment area needs work. There is not a radiator support present or hood hinges. I think the dashboard will need to be extended to fit all the heating and a/c duct work and wiring behind it. There are some dents here and there. There is rust around the rear fender mounting areas and below the doors. The front lower apron will also need to be replaced. Rear apron needs work. The brown strips on the body are remnants from tape that held a tarp in place during a move when it was raining. They should sand off pretty easily. No bumpers or running boards. The roof and all window surrounds are perfect! Hood, trunk lid, doors and all fenders are included. Front windshield and door glass are gone. Rear window and rear side glass are included. If I recall, they are in good shape. Fenders are metal and will have to be widened to fit over the tires. As far as the interior goes, I have some old VW door and side panels, the headliner bows, (no material on then), old, torn Monza front seats with tracks and a Monza center console that will bolt to the floorpan. I do not think I have the Monza rear seat or the VW's. You will have to make some mounts for these. Lots of other odd and end interior stuff. Dash gauges from VW, Monza and I think I.R.O.C. Heating and A/C items from the Monza and I.R.O.C. No carpeting. All of it is used and who knows what shape it's in after all these years. The body is temporarily bolted on a 1980's Toyota Hilux pickup frame with hardware store bolts, nuts and washers. The rear of the body is bolted through some factory VW mounting brackets ( I think these were for mounting the VW rear suspension) to factory mounting brackets on the Hilux frame. ( I think these were for mounting the front of the truck bed) Two holes were drilled in the interior of the body, one on each side, close to the firewall, and bolted to factory mounts on the Hilux frame. ( I think these were for mounting the cab of the truck) The front end of the VW body is not bolted to anything. There is not any padding or bushings between the body and frame. The frame has been shortened in the back and all the welds were smoothed and the frame is painted gloss black. The front end suspension is a mixture of the Hilux engine crossmember with control arms, stock V8 Monza coil springs, spindles and brakes. The front suspension parts are painted gloss black. The brake rotors are aftermarket Monza that have been redrilled to a Chevy 5 lug pattern so you could rotate the tires. They have 1/2" studs. There are no shocks. I'm not sure if it will need Monza or Hilux shocks. There is not any steering linkage hooked up, all there is is a threaded rod with nuts that keep the wheels mostly straight. Monza steering linkage is included. They do turn together if you manually turn a tire left or right. The rear end is from a early Chevy S-10. The original wheel studs were removed and redrilled to 1/2". It was rebuilt years ago at the start of this project. There is a limited slip unit in it and I believe 2.73 gears. It has drum brakes. The brackets from the Monza rear end were welded to this rear and are attached to the frame with boxed Monza control arms. There is also a shortened panhard bar from the Monza to help with keeping the rear end tracking straight. These are painted gloss black. Included are Monza V8 coils that are removed from the vehicle. There are no shocks. Not sure what kind of shock will be needed, but they need to be shorter than stock Monza shocks. The top mounting bracket of the panhard bar and the shocks were not mounted properly and poked through the trunk floor. I think the shocks were too long and it needs additional reinforcement in the trunk area to support these or mount them to the frame. THIS STILL NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED. The rear of the frame rests on the rear end. They are tied together to prevent bouncing around during transport without the coils and shocks. The coil springs will not stay in place without the shocks as there is not enough weight in the back and nothing to limit their movement. The engine and 4 speed auto trans are from a 1985 Chevy Camaro I.R.O.C. Z. It is a Tuned Port 305. They had around 75,000 miles on them. They have not been rebuilt and have been sitting for years. I also have the computer and all the wiring from the I.R.O.C. The engine and trans are just resting in the engine compartment. They are NOT bolted down to anything. There are factory motor mount brackets on the engine and brackets on the Hilux front crossmember. They are resting on each other. There are factory transmission crossmember brackets on the Hilux frame by the transmission that appear to be in a good place for a transmission crossmember. I'm not sure if you would need a Hilux, an aftermarket or homemade crossmember. There is a steel rod run through the transmission mount to the brackets on the frame and it is zip tied in place. How this will do when moving it this time, I have no idea and I make no claims that they will stay there or if it's safe to tow this way. Your decision! Conversion V8 motor mounts and I believe trans mounts are available at Northwest off road Specialties, Inc. Not sure of the cost or if they would work for this. The wheels are aluminum and have been painted a 1989 Corvette burgundy color with six coats of clear. Some of this paint is included, but I'm not sure if it's good anymore. The color should be on the can. The whole car was going to be this color. There are four angled black knockoffs but only two adapter caps included. I CAN NOT find the other two. The wheels are secured with four black lug nuts and one black wheel lock on each. All wheel studs are 1/2". Mounted on them are four B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A tires, 265R/50/14. They have not been balanced. The tires were purchased new around 1990, and are old now, but they are in PERFECT condition. They have been kept inflated. There are NO weather cracks or damage of any kind. All of the little rubber nubs are still there. Whenever the vehicle was moved, it was towed on a full trailer. The tires probably have less than a half mile of actual road use. Included are boxes and boxes of stuff, some V.W., some I.R.O.C., some Monza. Certainly NOT everything your going to need to finish it, but everything I have related to this project goes with the vehicle. Please don't ask what is there, as I don't remember exactly. Please don't ask to sell this or that seperately, it all goes to the high bidder. Bring a truck and trailer and a buddy to move all this. I will be happy to help, but I don't think two of us can push the car up onto a trailer! All and all, not a bad car that still does need some work, time and money to complete. I've got several thousand wrapped up in this car getting it to this point. Not for the faint of heart and not a kit! This will be AWESOME and FAST when finished!! Picture yourself and friends driving around and smoking the tires in this unusual vehicle!!! Please have cash in hand on pickup. On Jul-30-13 at 10:13:19 PDT, seller added the following information: Hello again Today I was looking at the Florida title that I have. Apparently, I did sign it, and had it notarized back in 1988. I guess I just never took the title to the D.M.V. in Florida and completed the transaction. So... not sure what to do about this now or if it even matters since I can't find any serial numbers on the body anyway. Sorry about the confusion, but I did want to mention this.
