Vehicle Detail
Ever wanted to own a piece of history? Well this 1955 Ford Thunderbird is one of the first 200 made! In fact, it is the 172nd out of 16,155 produced for that year. “For 1955, the first 1000 Dearborn-built Ford VINs - 100001 through 101000 - were reserved for the new Thunderbird. All of these cars had the same 292 cubic-inch V-8 engine (P), all were 1955 models (5), all were built at Dearborn (F), and all were the same body series (H). Therefore we know that P5FH100001 through P5FH101000 constitute the correct and complete VIN list for the earliest-built Thunderbirds. After 101000 was assigned, those VINs given to Thunderbirds were random and drawn from the general pool as needed. This Thunderbirds VIN is as follows: P5FH100172, and the data plate reads 40A-T-C-1KS1290. From this we know that it has the original turquoise exterior paint, and the original turquoise and white interior. This unrestored Thunderbird has 52,000 original miles, came with 4-way power seats, power breaks, and power steering. It has the three speed manual transmission, and is a two seated convertible. Unfortunately it is missing both its soft and hard tops, and the original carpet. It has the original spare tire and road side jack in the trunk. Thunderbirds 100001 through 100004 were not actual assembly line production cars. Vin = P5FH100172 P = V8 OHV 292 cu. in. 5 = 1955 F = Dearborn, MI. This T-Bird was last registered in 1973 and was parked in mid 1974. It is coming from an estate sale and as of now we cannot find the set of keys but are still in search of. We have old registration on the car but not the original pink slip, the sale will include a 'Bill of Sale' 'Statement of Facts' from the DMV and will all be certified through the lawyers office and the Power of Attorney who is handling the estate. We have not tried to start the car nor does it look like it would start. This car appears to be a good candidate for a major clean up/major tune up/gone through 100% and get her driving or with the history on this car being the 168th ever sold, it is a really nice candidatge to restore and put on the road as a beautiful driver. There is some rust on the left side of the bottom trunk pan, on the edge of the trunk lid itself and some on the floor up in the cabin area. It doesn't appear to be really bad but please ask for any pictures of specific areas if you have any question? A very neat and unique piece of history and we are looking forward to getting this car into the right hands of someone who will appreciate the car for what its worth and the history behind it.On Jul-24-13 at 20:37:06 PDT, seller added the following information:As the auction end nears, we are getting a lot of extra questions regarding years, storage, ownership, conditions etc?? I will try and answer them to the best of my knowledge. I asked the daughter-n-law for any old pictures but she had none ; ( So the car was built in Detroit as you all probably know and according to the data plate it was was produced there and then shipped to Kansas City after the build. When the car arrived to California I am not exactly sure but the daughter-n-law of the estate remembers her Father-n-law owning the car in California since 1957 and riding around in the car when she was a little girl as far back as 1957,58 and 59 and there on.. So with that being said, I would say it has been in California at minimum, the past 58+ years. As far as last driven, I am not sure when that exactly was but I do know the last registration paid on the plates before it was supposedly parked is 1973, so a good guess it was parked sometime in 1974? I do know it has 'yellow on black' plates which would not be the correct plate on a 1955 vintage but a 'black on yellow' would be period correct! The front floors have some surface rust and in a few areas there is a small patch where it does go through and in the trunk area a little on the left. The car was stored inside of a warehouse, away from sun and rain elements, but not 100% away from heat or cold. There was carpet in the car when we got it with a lot of stains and garbage and stuff so we pulled that all out to expose the floors for visual purposes. I would say the floors are in good condition for its age and very repairable but I am not a professional? The underside of the car has very little grease or dirt and has a normal style of surface blemish or very light rust common of a car that has been running and driving the roadways for the past 60 years. We tried slightly to turn the engine over only using the fan blade and the belt just slips. We have been asked by numerous people about this and more importantly instructed 'not to’ force or use a wrench on the crankshaft bolt to turn the engine. We were going to have a professional mechanic come over and see if it actually turns over or if he can remove the spark plugs and lube cylinders if that is what is needed but time hasn’t permitted. We checked the oil level and that appears to be good and in normal condition. The transmission shifts back n forth into gear as well . We can visually see that the car needs a new exhaust system. We also noticed that the self adjusting brake in the left front wheel I think it was, locks up when going forward or reverse. So these are pretty much all the history and conditions we can provide. We do have 31 pictures that we took which include the ones in the ad that we can send to anybody wanting to view the pics in closer detail or the 8 extra ones we have? You can email me at bobbyfranks@aol.com if interested seeing more pics?On Jul-28-13 at 05:13:58 PDT, seller added the following information:So under the original eBay ad section where I filled out all the details it reads 'Title' and I guess I marked 'Clear' during the programming of the ad. If you read the 'add note' I mention I do not have the pink slip/title for this car. We thought we could find the keys and the old registration from the estate but none of it was found! There were (17) 1961-1964 Cadillac Devilles and Sevilles, a Model A and a Model T that were all sold this way without original title paperwork, all through the Trustee. So with that being said, We do not have the title/pink slip which I mentioned in the ad of the auction but we do have as follows in which we will be providing to the winner of auction; - DMV REG. 227 signed and filled out by the Executor/Trustee of the Trust - DMV REG. 256 signed and filled out by the Executor/Trustee of the Trust - DMV REG. 135 signed and filled out by the Executor/Trustee of the Trust If you are the winner of the auction you will get everything signed in completion to re-register this vehicle, mark my word and has been handled in the same fashion with the other estate cars. This car has been stored in Sunnyvale, California since 1974 all the way til 2011 and then stored in San Jose, California from 2011 until approximately a month ago where it resides in Campbell, California awaiting its ebay sale and next destination? The estate is coming to a close and all assets are being sold off. If you have any worries about the title, you can check on the forms I mention above with the Department of Motor Vehicles and you will find there will be no problems in registering this vehicle using these forms. Thank you and good luck with the bidding.
