Vehicle Detail

Ford Motor Company 1936 DeLuxe Roadster ~ 68 w/ Rumble Seat Be sure to watch the YouTube video below. One of several Antique & Classic cars owned by an avid collector who is no longer able to drive & enjoy them. Purchased in 1960, having a full & correct restoration that has held up very well encompassing all the desired options, (itemized above) including, a Boot/Cover for top, Maintenance & Reference Manuals, 1936 PA License Plate, Schrader Tire Gauge etc. Car did run well in 2005 when it was stored in a heated hanger by owner's daughter & w/ proper steps & necessary maintenance should run easily. A low production car w/ only 3862 produced & wonderful Art Deco styling that looks like its flying down the road when standing still. How many correctly restored, ORIGINAL ones do you see today? NOTE: Due to the car's storage in the hanger corner & unable to move outside, the photographs were taken under a variety of light sources, i.e., indoor overhead, some outdoor from open doors & camera flash to get the best overall detail. Therefore the car's color appears different in some shots. It is the standard Ford Tan of the time & is best represented by the shots w/ direct flash such as the angled shot of the right rear.*For 30 More pictures of undercarriage etc. please click on “about me” below & follow instructions:* about me Check out my other items! ~ CONDITION ~Exterior: Absolutely NO Filler detected on the body anywhere; a magnet stuck solidly on every smooth, straight panel. Overall condition is consistent w/ a 40 yr. old resto & is in surprisingly good shape. Paint still has considerable shine w/ the expected chips around edges, flaking & aged areas, particularly some peeling on the left rear fender top. All chrome/brightwork has substantial finish loss & uniform rust speckles everywhere. Lenses, including Blue Dot tail lights & glass are good, Spider wheels are nice & although tires have tread & hold air, will need to be replaced. Top w/ glass rear window is good w/ the exception of a foot long tear on left side from airplane wing (the pilot was trying to catch up w/ the old Flathead Roadster :) & Boot/Cover is in V. Good condition. The only detectable rust was a repaired area on the bottom of the driver’s door jamb as seen in the pic.Interior: Overall in Good condition w/ no odor or mildew having been covered & stored in a heated hanger. Seat & door panels have no rips, tears or noticeable stitching loss. Slight wear on driver’s side bolster area & carpets/matting are Fair over solid, dry floorboards. Gauges have clear lenses & very legible dials but bezels & knobs have pitting & dash paint & elsewhere is flaking off. Key turns lock on Rumble Seat, but couldn’t open. It’s most likely stuck around the seals & I didn’t want to force it. Both the daughter & son remember the condition as being very nice when stored & is most likely even better than the Good front seat area. Banjo wheel is worn but solid.Engine/Driveline: Post-War, 239ci/100hp, 24 Stud Flathead V8 - # 59A-B w/ 3 speed on the floor. Very clean engine bay w/ no leaks or gas smells. There is stabilized gas in tank that smells (for what it’s worth) fresh & gas in fuel bowl is clear w/ no sediments or gum. Radiator coolant is topped off & very clean. Brake pedal goes to floor & clutch is stiff & seems to bind up towards floor, but tranny shifts into gears. Undercarriage: No rust & solid showing some shiny paint. Rear wheel cylinders are leaking & very minor drips from engine & rear area. Frame rails are solid & there is only minimal surface rust.Road Test/Mechanically: All the family members say the car ran well when parked having no problems & everything worked. I have no reason to disbelieve them having known the owner & dealt w/ several of his other Antique/Classic cars through him & his adult children. With the proper start-up procedures, the engine will run as good as it did. Of course it will need or should have a major tune-up, lube, new belts, hoses, tires, brakes, all fluids flushed/drained, top repaired/replaced etc. SUMMARYA rock solid, rare, Rumble Seat Roadster in 4+ Cosmetic Condition that w/ a thorough detailing & service would be a low # 3 car. Not to say you could wash & wax this in a weekend & go touring or win a Show, but w/ some work you'll have a very nice stock Roadster w/ all the desirable Factory options that hasn't been messed with. Someone needs to preserve & enjoy this Classic either as a Show Driver or all the way to Concours. Member: Pennsylvania Antiques Appraisers’ Association ~We use & recommend ROAD SCHOLAR TRANSPORT~ On Jul-23-13 at 12:57:59 PDT, seller added the following information: *UPDATE: We were able to open the Rumble Seat after loosening old, stuck seal. Interior is Very Good as expected, unfortunately the Side Curtains & Top Bars are missing but we did find some new parts. We jacked up front & put a wrench (orig. crank is missing) on the crank nut & the engine turned freely for several inches as evidenced by change of fan belt color. 5 new pics on Website showing all of this. Car was changed over to hydraulic brakes at some time in the past.
