My sons and I have searched out, discovered, uncovered, collected, cherry-picked, and purchased approximately 10 Scouts in the last five years, and we still currently own four of them. This 1979 Scout II is the best one we have ever encountered. We bought it about four years ago after the original owner died of old age. It’s one of the cleanest, best preserved, smoothest running un-modified Scouts still alive. It has been garaged its whole life, has no sign of rust anywhere, starts immediately and runs smoothly even at freeway speeds. To pass Utah’s strict emissions and inspection we first installed a new windshield, new brakes, new tires, and new dual exhaust. We then searched eBay and the IH forums to find and replace the smog control parts that been removed by the original owner. It now passes Utah emissions and inspection every year with flying colors. We have driven it almost daily during the summers but kept it in a heated garage during the winters. We don’t off-road it, push snow, drive it in bad weather, or even let it get wet except when washing it! The original paint is still shiny, the carpet is in great condition, and the vinyl seats are in excellent original shape except for a small area on the back left corner of the driver seat. All the instruments and accessories work including the radio, heater, factory A/C, even the clock works! Using the existing seat belt floor bolts we added a third OEM Scout seat belt to the back seat so we could take three grandchildren out for an occasional ride. This Scout came with the best preserved hard top we’ve ever seen, white, and complete with a near-flawless headliner. The top had never been removed until a couple of years ago when we removed it to install the Safari top shown in the pictures. The hard top has been stored in a heated garage since then. The new Safari top is a full-enclosure top that is complete with rear and side window panels that snap-in/zip-in easily and extend the ability to drive the Scout in comfort all year long. Both tops are included. This Scout has the 304 V8 with power steering and automatic transmission. It’s responsive, smooth, fun to drive, and we wouldn’t be afraid to jump in it and head out on a road trip this weekend! The only known issue is that it drips a little bit of automatic transmission fluid when parked, but that is managed by adding a quart of fluid every 3-4 months. This classic Scout is a survivor, not rebuilt and not modified. Clean and rare, it will only increase in value. And it's good-looking! Face it, some of the Scouts out there aren't really much to look at! This one is a real head-turner and solicits comments and compliments whenever we take it out, which is usually just for an ice cream or yogurt during summer afternoons. If you’re looking for a clean, unmodified, awesome-looking dependable daily driver Scout, you just found it. And by the way, the reserve on this classic Scout is much lower than some of the others currently listed here on eBay, so thanks for looking, good luck and happy bidding!
