Vehicle Detail
This is only 1 of only 74 Triumph Tiger Cub SR models built in 1963...all 74 sent to US market. In total there were only 814 Tiger Cub SR's built between 1962 and 1965. I bought it in 1973 from a man in Youngstown, OH here. It was ridden a short time then stored , always inside, with other Triumphs as I collected them. This Tiger Cub has "R" (racing) cam, CR (close ratio) or ECR (extra close ratio) 4 speed transmission, high compression piston, sports valve springs, larger inlet valve, and a large bore Amal 376 monobloc carb. I rode it when I first acquired it in 1973, 40 years ago, and if I remember the original owner advised it was the ECR gearing. The SR designation is for "sporting road" and was designed as a "hot" roadster. The 1963 Tiger Cub was the first to replace the older distributor with the standard Triumph side point plate. All info comes from Mike Estall's "Triumph Tiger Cub Bible" and my personal knowledge of Triumph Tiger Cubs. The only difference I see in Mike Estalls notes on the 1963 Cub SR listed here is that the 376 Amal monobloc carb is a "274" not the "272" listed for it. I am sure the 274 is factory. It would be a slightly larger carb than one listed in Estalls notes on the SR. If bidding starts the "reserve price" will be met fairly quickly. I estimated mileage from original tire wear. There is a speedometer drive on rear wheel but no speedometer. Ignition switch is not correct and there is no key. I will store bike inside free of charge for up to 90 days in order for buyer to make arrangements to pick up. I will deliver bike up to 300 miles for 75 cents/mile. I own 6 Tiger Cubs and have another SR so I am reluctantly letting this one go. All my Cubs need restored. I also restore 650 cc models from 1963 to 1970. I do "performace restorations" on the 650's. I have found the Cubs to have about one third the parts (making restorations easier) and getting more popular and more expensive. There is not one broken or bent fin on the "oval" cylinder, the head, or even the two "finned" rocker covers that are standard on the SR....that is almost unheard of. Exhaust pipe is solid with two small dents on top. Muffler is solid...I really believe previous owner painted it black to protect chrome. New reproduction chrome mufflers are available for Cubs now. I really think this one, with no dents, would be great rechromed to keep bike completely original. Previous owner cut the rear fender and tailight plate. I , at first, thought he used it in the woods but the unbroken engine fins makes that unlikely. Both Dunlop original rims will need rechromed. Obviously headlight and bracket currently on the SR are not correct. Correct fork "ears" are included. They are sandblasted so need primer and paint. Title is in my name and it will be forwarded to buyer within 60 days of auction end. I have a copy and am looking for original. I can assure buyer that there is a valid correct title for the SR. I had it transfered about 12 years ago. I am sure I can forward sooner but for sake of sale I am putting 60 days to get the replacement title from BMV. It sometimes takes a while. As you can see by my feedback I take pride in being honest and fair. I received my first negative (after 900 transactions...alot being motorcycles sold) by a jerk in California who bid on a "pick up only" item then left a negative because shipping on item was $182.00 to him...he thought it was free I guess. He was a new ebayer. Anyone with less than 20 ebay feedbacks...please email me prior to bidding or I will cancel the bid and block. I know there are alot of good eBayers out there without alot of feedback....just email me first. Thanks !! Please email me with any questions prior to bidding. I am including two headlight "ears" that are missing. I also am including two better knee pads. Both items were purchase on ebay for this bike so I want to include them even though I have other Cubs that need them. I even have the original stock Amal carb side plate and gasket that was replaced with the float bowl extension. It is in the original box that the extension came in. There is also a 3/8" wide chrome velocity stack in the box. I guess it fits the 376 Amal. This SR has a tire pump under tank. It works but needs "walnut shelled", primered, and painted. Spokes are all good. I can have them cad plated if buyer wants for about $90/set. I am sure that that the seat pan is good. Seat will need recovered. The metal on this Cub is in condition as when bike was new. The finishes need redone but the metal itself is great. Inside tank is good. Outside tank is free of any dents or deep scratches. Both "Triumph" tank emblems good. Cub emblems complete in these condition go for a few hundred alone on eBay. There are one or two few very minor dents that are almost unoticeable (see pictures). Has an "energy transfer" ignition so no battery. I jumped wires at ignition but no spark at plug so buyer, I'm sure, will go over Lucas electrics. You know the old saying...."Why do Brits drink warm beer?.....they have Lucas refridgerators !!" Bike kicks over freely and shifts through all gears. For sake of this sale bike is to be considered not running and "as is". Again please rely on my feedback. I require $980.00 within 48 hours of auction end via PayPal. Balance due buy certified funds within 7 days of auction end. Cash upon pickup if within 7 days. If money order or bank check are used then funds must clear bank before the Cub SR is taken. This bike has been stored indoors for 40 years. It is a great Cub....probably one of the best made. It is as solid as the day it was made. Rear fenders and license plate holders show up on eBay occasionally as does speedos and headlights. That's really all she needs to be complete. This is a rare occasion where 90% of the parts are in such good condition that they don't need replaced...only restored to original beauty. It, after restoration, is a Triumph Tiger Cub that will be one of only a few in the SR class that have survived. Triumph made this the "performer" in Cub series. Thanks...and good luck !! On Jul-11-13 at 11:11:03 PDT, seller added the following information: I just wanted to reiterate two things on the Cub SR. First... if you look at closeups of rear wheel parts, engine bolts, and other frame hardware you can see that the bolts and nuts have never had wrenches on them. Wrenches and sockets always leave tale-tale signs. This only means that everything is in original condition. Not tank and fenders as I'm sure they were repainted but rest of bike has been untouched since made. Second...I want to restate the rarity of no broken fins on engine. If you check ebay for used cylinders, heads, and valve covers for all year Cubs...they always have missing or broken fins. It is a minor issue but extremely important when bike is restored to have engine look new.
