Normal.dotm 0 0 1 592 3377 University of Cincinnati College of Law 28 6 4147 12.0 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false Hello, up for auction is my prized 1990 VW Corrado. As with most Corrados, mine has a fairly lengthy back story. I’ll summarize the best I can. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I’ll be happy to answer them. PLEASE NOTE: Additional photos can be viewed HERE. The History: My friend purchased this Corrado approximately fourteen years ago. At that time, the Corrado was a G60. He drove it for a few years and then sold it to another friend of mine. That friend drove it for a few years and then sold it to me. At the time that I purchased the Corrado, I also owned a 1998 GTI VR6. The G60 needed an overhaul. Rather than overhauling the G60, my friend and I swapped out the VR6 from my 1998 GTI. During this process, we also swapped out the 1998 engine and dash wiring harnesses. Additionally, we had the door handles shaved and the car repainted. (I’ve included some photos from the engine swap and the prep work that the shop did before painting). I then drove the former G60 Corrado—now a VR6 Corrado—for about two years. During that time, the Corrado drove great. I was making bi-monthly trips from Orlando to West Palm Beach without issue. Then, without notice, the VR6 motor starting having problems and wouldn’t run reliably. Conveniently, I then began school in a large city and didn’t need a car. The Corrado sat in my parents' garage for the next five years. That brings us to February of last year—2012. I finished school, got a job, saved some money, and brought the Corrado to a specialist to get it running. The specialist swapped out the 1998 VR6 motor, with a 1993 VR6 motor, which had approximately 90k miles on it at the time. Since then, I’ve been driving the Corrado around Cincinnati. The Good: The tires. They’re essentially new (less than 500 miles). The paint. Aside from the few dings shown in the photos, the paint is pretty solid. The friend that I purchased the Corrado from worked at Wide World, in Spring Valley, NJ, and he had the Corrado painted there in 2006. The shop also clear coated the body and carbon fiber hood. Because the Corrado was in my parent’s garage from 2006 to 2012, the paint has held up well. The spoiler. It works! The dash. No cracks! The suspension. H&R Coilovers and upper and lower strut bars. The thermostat, water pump, and coolant pipe are new. The clutch is new. The wheel bearings—all around—are new. Miscellaneous add-ons. Neuspeed cool air intake, short shifter, 17” wheels (originally black and repainted flat black, now have a few dings), carbon fiber hood, shaved door handles, wireless remote door poppers. The Not So Good: The A/C doesn’t work. The Heater core has been bypassed. The moonroof doesn’t work, however, it doesn’t leak. The automatic seatbelt track doesn’t work, however, the seatbelts—both the chest and lap—do still function. The interior. Some of the seats are slightly torn and some of the door panels are starting to peel and crack. It doesn't look too bad for being twenty-three years old. I tried to document this in the photos the best that I could. The idle has been rough lately. I don’t know why, but I’ll explain. Sometimes, but not all the time, after the engine has warmed up and the car is in neutral, the RPMs will bounce around. Sometimes the Corrado will stall. Most of the time the idle will steady itself. Applying gas will prevent the stall. I haven’t noticed any problems while driving the Corrado—only when the Corrado is in neutral. I also don’t drive the Corrado very often any more, so I’m not sure if the idle problem would be more pronounced on a long drive. Aside from that, the Corrado starts right up and drives strong. Miscellaneous: The gauge cluster is from my 1998 GTI. It was easier to work with since we swapped over the 1998 dash wiring harness. I have the original G60 gauge cluster, however, if you would like to try and make that work. Just let me know, and I can include it. Why I’m Selling the Corrado: I’m moving to a new city in a metropolitan area. I won’t need a car, and I won’t have room to store one. I decided to scale down my possessions to make the move easier. I’m sure I’ll regret this decision. UPDATE: I've been getting a lot of questions about shipping and drivability. Shipping: The buyer must either pick the Corrado up or arrange for shipping/transport. I will gladly assist you in shipping in any way I can. I will even hold onto the Corrado for an extra week or so if needed. I'm somewhat flexible and understand that most of you do not live in or near Cincinnati. I used USHIP to have the Corrado shipped from my parents' house in Florida to Ohio. I found a guy willing to do it for about $600. Deals can be had if you look around. Drivability: Some of you have asked if the Corrado could be driven to Austin or Mobile or Philly or wherever in its current condition, taking into account the idle issue. I honestly don't know. Since the idle issue began, I have only driven the Corrado for 10-15 minutes at a time. It's entirely possible that the Corrado could make a long drive to your home. Personally, I would recommend either shipping the Corrado or having a Plan B just in case the Corrado doesn't cooperate. Ideally, you could come and check out the Corrado, take it for a test drive, let a mechanic check it out, etc. I understand that's not an option. If you have hesitations, don't bid. It's really that simple. If you are the high bidder once the auction ends, the Corrado is yours as is. There will be no test drives or changes of heart. That said; please ask any questions before bidding. I will answer you truthfully. Thanks for understanding.
