Vehicle Detail
No reserve. I need it gone! Mostly original 1954 3/4 ton 5 window GMC pickup truck with a 1957 Chevrolet 235 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder engine from passenger car, 4 on the floor with granny gear. The original GMC 248 inline 6 was replaced in 2007 with a 1957 Chevrolet 235 from a passenger car. It runs strong. The old 248 is long gone. The body is in very good shape as you can see from the pictures, but there is rust along the cab joint (see pictures). I have not cleaned the truck, or detailed it. It is as is. The truck bed is plywood, and is not pretty as you can see in the pictures. All five (5) "dog dish" hub caps caps are there; one for each tire plus the spare. They have dents, and have been powdered coated white. The wheels are still the original split rims, so they have inner tubes. Tires shops hate them. Tires are about 8 years old but have few miles. The radiator was rodded out at the same time the engine was replaced, so it cools great (which is what killed the 248). Rochester single barrel carburetor professionally rebuilt in 2008. Has original-type oil bath cleaner, but this on is not original to the truck. Original GMC manual transmission; granny gear, 2, 3, and 4, R. Since these trucks were designed to pull tree stumps back in the day, it's like driving a coffee grinder down the road past 50 mph. You can start it rolling in second it is geared so low. The original floor starter is still there, but no longer functions. Turn the key and push a button on the lower edge of the dash to start it. Rear bumper is not original. Original is not available. Interior is in reasonable shape. The cardboard headliner and door panels should be replaced. Interior surfaces have been painted with a rattle (spray) can. The bench seat was reupholstered with vinyl in 2004. Small dime size blemish on passenger side of the bench seat from dropping super glue on it. Shoulder and lap belts have been installed. Vents by the driver's and passenger's feet have been sealed with silicone along the way to keep water out. Original heater. Windshield wipers work off vacuum so not very powerful. The steering has a lot of play. I had purchased another column worm gear along the way to rebuild and replace it with (as can be seen in the photos, in the bed). I will include it with the truck, but make no guarantee as to the condition of it. Steering wheel has some cracks, but no chunks out of it. It is also painted with a rattle can. Horn works, parking brake works. 12 volt system. Wiring is old, and has been patched quite a bit over its life, so I would recommend a new wiring harness. Due to this, I make no claims about the integrity of the electrical system. Everything is there, everything works, but it is on its last legs. The choke and throttle cables need to be hooked back up. Speedometer is about 5 to 10 mph fast since the engine was swapped out. I have the original tube radio which worked when I last tested it. It is not installed, and there is no mounting hardware. Lights and signals work at this time. Alternator gage no longer functions since swapping out the engine. Oil Pressure and Temp gages work well. Gas gage is not original to the truck and it fluctuates quite a bit. There must be a short. Gas tank was cleaned out 5 years ago. Gas sender unit in good shape. The (drum) brake master cylinder replaced 4 years ago. I make no claims as to the effectiveness of the brakes. They stop the vehicle, but they are 60 year old technology. The driver's side extended mirror is off, but there. The driver's door glass is cracked (see picture). The windshield and back glass are in reasonable shape but not perfect. Same with the two curved side windows. I have a spare just in case. Truck is sold as is, where is. No warranties. I will answer your questions to the best of my ability, but I am not a mechanic. If you have concerns, or require information I cannot provide, please have the truck inspected by an independent inspector. Currently in storage in San Ysidro CA. Buyer responsible for shipping. I will assist all I can with being available for the transport company of your choosing. I know they can be hard to schedule. $500 non-refundable deposit due with in 24 hours, via PAYPAL. Balance due with in 7 days of auction close. I will accept cash or a transfer directly to my bank account. I will not release title until I have full payment. On May-07-13 at 08:54:33 PDT, seller added the following information: Listing shows condition NEW. This is obviously incorrect as truck is 59 years old with an indeterminate amount of miles. Wrong box checked during preparation of listing. Condition is USED.
