UP FOR BID: 1970 EL CAMINO PROJECT PACKAGE DEAL I PURCHASED THIS EL CAMINO IN 2001 WITH THE INTENTION OF DOING A ROTISSERIE RESTORATION AFTER FINDING HOW NICELY IT DROVE, CORNERED AND BRAKED. POWER BRAKES WORKED FINE, POWER STEERING WAS GOOD, AC BLEW COLD AIR NICELY. IT HANDLED 525 HP EXCEPTIONALLY WELL AND WAS STRAIGHT-ARROW FROM A DEAD STOP FULL THROTTLE WITH A 6" WHEEL LIFT OFF THE GROUND DURING LAUNCH. IT HAS THE 12 BOLT DIFFERENTIAL, 3.73 GEARS WITH AUBURN POSI. CENTERLINE CONVO PROS (15 X 10 IN THE REAR) WITH OUTDATED BFG DRAG RADIALS STILL HOLDING AIR. AIR SHOCKS IN THE REAR AND PROFESSIONALLY ROLLED INNER REAR FENDER LIPS FOR TIRE PROTECTION. EVEN THOUGH THIS EL CAMINO HAD BEEN RECENTLY PAINTED WHEN I BOUGHT IT, THE PREPARATION WAS NOT UP TO SHOW STANDARDS AND I FOUND SEVERAL SMALL RUST SPOTS THAT WERE JUST PAINTED OVER. THE ONLY SEVERE RUST I FOUND WAS ON THE LOWER ROCKER PANEL LOCATED BETWEEN THE REAR TIRE WELL AND THE PASSENGER DOOR AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURES. THIS LOWER PIECE NEEDS TO BE CUT OUT AND REPLACED. NOTHING CRITICAL AT ALL BUT IT'S JUST PART OF THE TYPICAL RUST AREAS COMMON TO THESE GM BODIES FOR THIS YEAR. I HAVE KEPT THIS EL CAMINO IN DRY STORAGE SINCE 2001 (NOT CLIMATE CONTROLLED) UNTIL NOW SO NO FURTHER WEATHERING COULD TAKE PLACE. I PULLED THE ENGINE AND TRANS OUT AS A START OF THE RESTORATION AND THEN EXPERIENCED A MAJOR JOB CHANGE AND HAD TO RELOCATE FROM CA TO AR. THIS INCLUDED RELOCATING ALL MY SHOP EQUIPMENT AND LIFT TO A NEW PROPERTY WITH NO SHOP SPACE SO EVERYTHING I OWNED WENT INTO A WEATHER-TIGHT BARN AND REMAINS THERE. UNEXPECTED HEALTH ISSUES PREVENTED ME FROM REBUILDING A SHOP AND RESTARTING THIS AND OTHER PROJECT VEHICLE RESTORATIONS. I HAVE RETIRED AND AM RELOCATING BACK TO CA SOON AND CAN'T TAKE EVERYTHING WITH ME SO THIS PROJECT MUST SELL ALONG WITH QUITE A FEW NEW PARTS PER THE FOLLOWING LIST: I ORDERED A NEW 15 X 12 PAIR OF REAR CONVO PRO'S WITH THE PROPER OFFSET TO HAVE THE ADDITIONAL 2" OF WIDTH PROJECT INWARDS WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR 335 (13" +/-) WIDTH STREET RADIALS. THESE WHEELS ARE INCLUDED....DO NOT HAVE THE TIRES FOR THEM. NEW NEVER INSTALLED BE-COOL ULTIMATE DUTY ALUMINUM RADIATOR AND HEAVY DUTY ALUMINUM TRANS COOLER WITH ELECTRIC FANS AND THERMOSTAT RELAYS KIT. THE STOCK RADIATOR AND FAN SHROUD IS ALSO INCLUDED. FRESH HEDMAN SBC HEADERS ARE INCLUDED AND SHOULD MATE UP TO THE 2-1/2" ALUMINIZED EXHAUST SYSTEM WITH FLOWMASTERS STILL ON THE TRUCK AND WERE RECENTLY INSTALLED BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. INCLUDED IS THE ORIGINAL TH350 RACE PERFORMANCE BUILT TRANS WITH A 2900 STALL CONVERTER. I ALSO HAVE 2 OTHER HI-PERF GM AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS THAT HAVE VERY LITTLE STREET TIME ON THEM THAT ARE INCLUDED. ONE CAME OUT OF MY 69 PRO STREET PICKUP AND IS AN AWESOME TRANNY WITH ONLY 500 MILES ON IT. DUE TO THAT TRUCK RUNNING 4.56 GEARS I INSTALLED A TH700R4 FOR THE OVERDRIVE BENEFIT. THE DRIVE SHAFT IS ALSO INCLUDED. A NEW HEATER CORE IS INSTALLED AND HAS NEVER BEEN HOOKED UP. I ALSO HAVE A BOX FULL OF MISC. HARDWARE, NUTS AND BOLTS, ETC... SAVED FROM REMOVING THE ENGINE AND TRANS ALSO INCLUDED AND I BELIEVE THE ENGINE MOUNTS ARE THERE TOO. ALSO INCLUDED IS A REALLY NICELY BUILT AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY THAT HAS A RUBBER SEAL MEETING THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE HOOD ALLOWING THE COWL HOOD TO FORCE FEED THE AIR. NOT THE FACTORY STOCK COWL AIR INDUCTION HATCH ON THE HOOD, THIS INDUCTION DESIGN IS ALWAYS DRAWING OFF THE COWL AND WINDSHIELD. SOUNDS GREAT WHEN THE SECONDARY'S OPEN !!! ALL THESE ACCESSORIES ARE STILL IN STORAGE AND COMING OUT OVER THE NEXT 2 DAYS SO IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS PLEASE START ASKING AWAY BUT I NEED A COUPLE DAYS TO GET EVERYTHING HERE WITH THE TRUCK. EVERYTHING WILL FIT IN THE BED AND THE ONLY THING YOU NEED TO HAVE THIS RUNNING IS YOUR OWN SBC OR BBC ENGINE !!! THE ENGINE FROM THIS EL CAMINO IS IN MY 69 PICKUP AND IS NOT AVAILABLE. THE INTERIOR LOOKS NICE WITH NO TEARS OR WEAR AS MOST OF IT WAS RECENTLY INSTALLED NEW JUST BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. IT'S NOT VERY OFTEN YOU SEE THE FULL BUCKET SEAT INTERIOR WITH THE CONSOLE, THE B&M SHIFTER AND THE CORRECT SS DASH AND GAUGES. I HAVE NOT CLEANED OR ALTERED THE INTERIOR SINCE I STORED IT AND SAME WITH THE EXTERIOR. I JUST WASHED THE EXTERIOR TO GET THE DUST OFF AND THAT'S IT. IT NEEDS A GOOD CLEANING INSIDE AND OUT. THE HOOD IS NOT MOUNTED TO THE HINGES YET AS YOU MIGHT NOTICE IN THE PICTURES BUT WILL BE MOUNTED FOR YOUR TRIP HOME. I HAD NO HELP TO PICK UP THE HOOD FOR ENGINE COMPARTMENT PICTURES BUT ALL IS NORMAL. THE ENGINE BAY WAS PRESSURE WASHED BEFORE IT WAS STORED. THE GLASS IS ALL FACTORY TINTED AND SHOWS VERY GOOD. I DON'T KNOW IF THE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS ARE FACTORY. THE REAR IS RUSTING AND THE FRONT SHOWS NO RUST BUT HAS 2 SPOTS WHERE THE CHROME HAS PEELED OFF. IN MY OPINION SUMMIT RACING REPLACEMENTS ARE INEXPENSIVE AND BETTER/CHEAPER THAN RE-CHROMING THESE. THE EXTERIOR HAS A FEW RUB SPOTS ON IT WHERE THINGS WRAPPED IN BLANKETS PACKED AROUND IT VIBRATED AGAINST THE PAINT WHILE IN TRANSIT IN AN ENCLOSED TRAILER FROM CA TO AR BACK IN 2001. THERE'S A FEW SCRATCHES HERE AND THERE BUT NO DENTS OR DAMAGE TO THE BODY. THIS EL CAMINO WOULD MAKE A REALLY NICE EVERYDAY DRIVER JUST AS IT IS WITH A LITTLE ELBOW GREASE AND PAINT TOUCH-UP AND IS DEFINITELY A GREAT CANDIDATE FOR A FULL RESTORATION WITH THE INTENT TO SHOW. I personally believe this "Real SS" stuff is not what you think it is once you do your homework and find out what SS has to do with performance options.........nothing basically. I bought a new 1967 SS 350 Camaro. It was a stripo with a powerglide. The SS got me a white nose band on the blue body and that's about it. No posi, no hi perf goodies, nothing but a 350 4 barrel (junk quadrajet with sticking metering rods after just one month old ) with 295 HP. Although "SS" doesn't mean much the letters "YENKO" do !! When I bought a new 1970 Corvette with a 454 I checked out the El Camino's as well. The SS was an appearance package to say the most. You get the SS letters, a domed hood and hood pins........nice. No posi, no special dash gauge arrangement, no buckets seats, no air induction, all that stuff had to be ordered extra......everything to do with hi-perf gears, a top of the line interior, nicer dash gauges, and so on were individual upgrades. The biggest thing to be concerned about was whether the El Camino came with a 6 cylinder or a v-8 cause with the 6 cyl. your getting lighter springs and always a 10-bolt diff. This all boils down to the real proof being there only if you get the original engine and transmission with the El Camino you buy. Since 1970 when these cars were new they have changed hands so many times and have seen so much modification that most if not all of the identifiable indicators have been removed. There's lots of great history and info out there online about these cars and some of the different sites have conflicting information but still very interesting non the less. The previous owner installed the bucket seats, center console, upgraded dash, new door panels, headliner, race shop built TH350 trans and a 383 cu in sbc built to the shop's spec's as a 525 hp engine that runs on 93 octane (the 383 is not included in this auction). I bought it as an SS clone and must advertise it now as a clone. It is an original 350 v-8 with automatic selector on the column from the factory. Thanks for all the questions and keep them coming.
