Vehicle Detail
Very nice 1981 Honda CBX1000 Sport-Touring. Bike sat in a reasonably controlled environment for about 25 years, on its center stand and covered. Cosmetically: It is not perfect but would appear to be from a few feet away. There are pinpricks of corrosion in some of the chrome pieces, and clear coat has degraded in small spots on some of the polished alloy. Please see images where these imperfections are visible. Paint is near showroom condition by my reckoning, but I'm sure an anal-retentive could find something. Instruments appear perfect. Bike is just as clean and shiny under the tank and seat. See detailed images and a couple of running videos here: Click! (might have to copy/paste this: http://sdrv.ms/ZL08jn). Mechanically: Carbs and fuel tank were drained prior to storage, but small amounts of fuel remained and left some residue. The tank has been thoroughly rinsed and the petcock was re-fitted with new soft parts. There are no fuel leaks. The bike starts and runs fairly well, but not perfectly. Once it is to operating temperature it idles without clutch-rattle and revs very well - but sometimes with a slight hesitation when snapping open the throttle. Every one of the half-dozen CBXs I've ever ridden ran much worse (" . . . just need a little carb work," said all the sellers), but I've heard tell that when one is right, it runs like a Honda. In truth, it seems to run better every time I take it out. Brakes work front and rear, but there's apparently a bit of hesitation in the pucks returning to the caliper cylinders, as they sometimes drag. The rear master cylinder has been re-fitted with new replacement parts, but not either front or rear caliper, nor the front master. Original tires are mounted, and although they stick fine to pavement and do not appear degraded . . . well, that would be up to the new owner. All lights, horn, etc. work as expected on a Honda. Florida title is in my name. Here please find a couple of points that don't seem to get through to some potential buyers. 1. I can have the bike shipped to pretty much anywhere in the lower 48 states, excepting NYC/Long Island. Now - this is important - my shipper can take up to six weeks, depending on where the driver finds himself when the bike sells. This is by enclosed eighteen-wheeler van. However, I strongly recommend the buyer (should there be one) be prepared to arrange your own shipping, with the bike picked up here in Titusville FL USA. 2. Payment only prior to pickup or shipping by a) bank wire transfer, or b) in cash at pickup. Once again: no checks, cashier, personal or otherwise. No stamps, guns, coins, or MiLs, etc. No PayPal for full payment (OK for deposit only). Only payment methods accepted are Bank Wire Transfer or Cash, prior to shipping or at pickup, respectively. Buyer please be prepared to pay by one of those two methods, and no others. Thanks much for understanding those terms. On Apr-25-13 at 05:38:12 PDT, seller added the following information: Took this bike out for about 30 miles yesterday afternoon. Before I turned around to head back home, it was already idling perfectly and pulling away off idle from stops very well. Additionally, the brakes were no issue; no heating up and binding as is usually the case when the fluid is not returning to the master or the pucks are sticking. All to say, I would continue to ride it just as it is were I to decide to keep it.
