Offered for Sale by the California Automobile Museum
This 1949 Pontiac appears to be in all original condition. This vehicle has been in the museum's collection since 2003 when it was donated. It is now your chance to own a piece of the California Automobile Museum.
Exterior
The original paint still has a pretty good shine to it. The paint presents well. All of the panels seem to be very solid and look to be all the original panels. the vehicle does have some scratches and chips in various spots. The right front fender looks like it was swiped against something before it was donated to the museum. The top of the left front fender does have a couple of scratches as well. There is a small dent on the right rear fender that looks like it will be easy to remove. The trim on the Pontiac is complete but there are a couple of pieces that are dented on the right hand side of the vehicle. The chrome grill and bumpers are in great shape and the bumpers have a pretty nice shine to them still. The hubcaps are in pretty nice shape. All of the glass is intact but the right rear window has 2 stars in intbut are barely noticeable. The underside of this vehicle is extremely solid and very clean.
Interior
The original interior is mostly there. The front seat has the top fabric piece missing on the seat section and its also missing on the drivers backrest as well. The back seat is complete but is worn. The original carpet is still in the vehicle as well. The rubber floor mat in the front passenger compartment is complete and clean. The original door panels are still on the vehicle but have some staining on them and have a little warpage. The headliner is complete but has a couple of rips on the edges. The dash is complete with all its gauges in place and all the knobs. It still has the dash stoplight reflector as well.
Mechanical
Mechanically this vehicle is complete. This vehicle was donated how it sits today. The engine will fire up if you pour fuel into the carburetor manually. The fuel tank needs to be flushed out as the fuel in it is bad. The mechanical fuel pump seems to work as it does try to pull fuel and push it through the glass filter bowl. It appears that the lines coming from the tank are possible cracked and leaking. We had the vehicle running and noticed after that there was fuel coming from the tank area. There is a freeze plug that has a repair done to it with a screw and a rubber washer and looks to still leak a little. I am unaware of the condition of the transmission as I cant do a road test of the vehicle. The clutch feels good and it will shift through all the gears and doesnt feel sloppy. The brakes need to be gone through as the pedal goes straight to the floor. The electrical system seems to be in good shape. We installed a brand new battery to be able to check everything and to get the vehicle to crank and start. All of the exterior lights work correctly.
Overview
This Pontiac is in good overall shape and with a little work would make a great unmolested original. We do not have any of the history on this vehicle. The original yellow California plates are still on this vehicle along with the metal 49 tag. The condition of this Pontiac leads me to believe that it was always well taken care of and garaged.
