1971 Ford Thunderbird 4dr suicide doors LOW FAIR RESERVE - unlike similar cars Ive seen on ebay. We want to move our cars to new homes. This car restored or left mostly original would be a great investment OR, think of the car modded like this: Semi-flat black body paint - 20" black wheels with a polished lip and wide white tires - dropped about 2" all around - Gloss black painted roof - dark tinted windows - and a set of Magnaflow mufflers. Maybe a small red pinstrip down the top body line to seperate the two black colors. Okay, and maybe powdercoat the bumpers black. I really was ready to do that but couldnt bring myself to cover the original Blue Paint. Pull up to any club, open up all 4 doors and out pile your crew. Every person in line would have their eyes on that car and valets would be fighting to park it !! ALSO about the title. We had to apply for a new title a few weeks ago and MVD is so backed up, we wont see the new one for about 4-6 more weeks. If the car meets reserve, the sale still goes on like normal, payment, shipping etc and when we get the title from our DMV we will send it out priority mail. Check out our feedback. The car did sit off and on for many years hence the only 86337 miles When we got it we totally dropped the tank, cleaned it and the lines out, rebuilt the carb, installed a new cap, rotor and plugs. It fires right up and idles decent, but power level doesnt feel what it should be. Doesnt run as well as it should. I was going to do the points next, check the timing and maybe put on a set off new plug wires too and see if it helps. A/C is all connected, but not fully functional at the time. INTERIOR: Very clean for a car this old, but it did getsome sun damage as you may expect for an Az vehicle. Although some heat damage has taken its toll over the yrs, plastic pieces brittle and vinyl showing their age. Its fine for a driver and wouldnt take much to make it much nicer. Although most of the electronic switches whererebuilt about 13 yrs ago, due to not being used much many of them dont work anymore. They may just need to be cleaned due to dust build up from the AZ desert. Dr door panel need some work too. All the glass is fine. Exterior: See that blue metallic paint ? that is 100% all original Ford PAINT !! Looks amazing for its age, esp in pics BUT and in person you can see some flaws from over the yrs. But how many people can say their paint on a 40 yr old car looks this good ?It is thin too in a few spots from being buffed out over time. DRIVETRAIN:Original 429 4V workhorse of a motor makes no weird noises (other then the rough idle etc ) and does not smoke at all. good with no smoke or weird noises. The C6 transmission and rearend feel solid and no leaks. Front brakes are brand new as as some of the bushings in the front end. (receipts from the previous owner) come with the car to prove what was done about 10k miles ago. Remember its not a restored car but a nice RUST FREE ARIZONA SURVIVOR. I suggest a new set of tires soon, these are pretty old. Being an Az car the floors and trunk etc are very clean Even the top of the roof stayed solid. The only 2 places I found rust was on either side of the roof pillars where the water (what little we do get) would run down and sit on both sides of the back window. The car needs a new vinyl top, so during the process replace the metal on those areas, put on your top or paint it and its done. The car lived some of its life in Austin Tx I believe and then the last 20 or so yrs here in Tucson It wouldnt take a lot to restore it and in the end its only going to go up in value. On Apr-18-13 at 11:23:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Im almost 100% sure its a carb issue...because I got out on the road and the car has plenty of powerand runs great at half or full throttle. So not sure if its the chokeor somehow running rich thru the idle circuit, but once you get moving and give it more throttle, it clears up and runs well.I may try to work on the carb again some more and check thechoke etc if I have time this week.But the problem seems to come and go.On Apr-22-13 at 15:57:25 PDT, seller added the following information: TOOK OFF THE CARB AGAIN TODAYTOOK IT APART AND STUFF FROM THE TANK SOMEHOW GOT INTO IT AGAIN. SO WE SPENT AN HOUR CLEANING IT OUT AGAIN AND INSTALLED ANOTHER NEWFUEL FILTER.RESULTS; CAR RUNS MUCH BETTER, MUCH. ONLY THING WE NOTICED IN THE PROCESS IS THAT THE COUNTERWEIGHT FORTHE CHOKE KICK DOWN IS MISSING, SO IT WANTS TO STAY ON HIGH IDLE SOMETIMESAFTER IT WARMS UP. I WAS ALREADY UNDER THE HOOD WHEN I FIGURED IT OUT SOI KICKED IT DOWN BY HAND. NOT SURE THE EASIEST WAY TO FIX THAT BUT I WANTEDTO MAKE MENTION OF IT SINCE WE JUST NOTICED IT TODAY DURING THE REPAIRS.
