This beautiful 1962 Ford Thunderbird was donated to the California Automobile in November of 2007. It was exhibited and displayed here in the museum since that time and is now being sold. This vehicle has been in Non-Operation status with the DMV the entire time. It has a clean and clear California Title. Mileage shows 44 on the odometer. Information from an appraisal of the vehicle when donated the mileage shows 99931 with approximately 28,000 on the engine. So the odometer has turned over and would now be 100,044 miles.
Exterior
The paint on this Thunderbird is in very nice shape, it shines nicely and presents very well. There is one scratch that has taken the paint off on the passenger door (pictured) it is about 2 inches long. there are some small touch ups here and there but do not take away from the overall appearance of the vehicle. The body panels are all very straight and there does not appear to be any bondo or body filler on this vehicle. All of the trim and chrome is in very nice shape. The trim is straight and is dent free. The front windshield has a very small chip in it but looks like it could be repaired. The rest of the glass is in very nice condition. The lenses are all in nice shape and are not cracked.
Interior
The interior is in excellent shape. The seats are comfortable and there are no rips or tears in the vinyl material. The drivers seat does have some separation of the backrest seams (pictured). The door panels are all in great condition and are complete. The padded dash looks nice but does have a couple of cracks around the speaker/vent opening in the center of the dash. The carpet is clean and is not worn but does have some slight fading on the edges where the rubber floor mats did not cover. The headliner is in great shape and is intact and clean.
Mechanical
This Thunderbird runs well and starts right up. A new battery was installed as the old one sat for too long without a charge. The vehicle does have a slight stumble when pulling away from a stop but we think that is associated with the vehicle sitting since 2007 in the museum. The T-Bird most likely needs a tune-up to alleviate the stumble. The transmission shifts nicely driving down the road. The cooling system seems to be operating correctly as I ran the vehicle for about a half hour and it maintained correct temperature while driving. Electrically this vehicle seems very sound. All of the lights and signals work as they should. The wipers, radio heater and defroster all work. Air conditioning looks to have been factory installed but it does not blow cold air and is most likely associated to being stored for 6 years. All of the electric windows work but the rear drivers window is a little slow. This Thunderbird has the very nice swing away steering wheel that makes getting in and out of this vehicle easy. Some receipts that will go with the vehicle indicate that the exhaust system was in 2006. Leaf springs were replaced in 1994. There are some other various receipts for tune-ups and brake repairs going back to 1977. the tire date codes show 238 for 3 of them and 108 for the forth one. Which could possible indicate that the tires are from 1998. They do have lots of tread left and have always been indoors since we have had the vehicle.
Overview
This Ford Thunderbird is a black plate California vehicle. A copy of the donating owners pink slip shows registration expiring in 1977, a small tablet that was handwritten states the vehicle was purchased in December of 1976.
This vehicle is in the same condition as it showed up in. We always recommend having the vehicle checked out before operating since it has sat for an extended period of time.
