Offered for Sale by the California Automobile Museum
This beautiful 1953 Ford Crestline Convertible is in fantastic shape. This model year is the 50th anniversary of Ford and is a great example of a well taken care of vehicle. This year is also the last year of the Flathead V-8 and is becoming more and more rare. This vehicle is coming from an estate and its history is unknown. We do know it was stored inside while the current owner had it. The title issue date is 3/24/10 and may be when the current owner bought the vehicle.
Exterior
The paint on this vehicle presents nicely and has a nice shine to it. I am unaware of when this vehicle may have been painted. There are some small scratches here and there and some small spots where the paint has been touched up, although you can really only tell if you are looking very close. There is a very small dent on the front left fender but the paint is not even cracked or chipped (pictured). The body panels are all very straight and solid and I cant find any filler with a magnet. The underside of the vehicle looks to be very solid as well. The bottom of the vehicle does have undercoating on it as well. Inside the fenders have also been undercoating and appear to be very solid as well. The chrome bumpers and grill are in great condition and shine nicely. The stainless trim is complete and looks great and does not have any dents or bends. All of the emblems are in place and are in good condition. The convertible top is in good shape and is free of any rips or tears.
Interior
The black and red vinyl seats are in great shape. The seats are clean and comfortable and free of rips and tears. The black, gray and red door panels look nice and are intact, with the door pull being the only part that shows some wear on the material. The rubber floor mat that covers the front portion of the passenger compartment is in good shape and is clean. The carpet in the rear passenger compartment is clean and does not have any fading. The dash board has all the gauged and knobs present and they are all in good condition. The steering wheel is free of cracks and has the 50th anniversary logo in the center of the wheel.
Mechanical
The flat head V-8 fires up with ease and idles nicely. The fordomatic transmission shifts as it should. Electrically this vehicle seems to be very sound. All of the gauges seem to work correctly. We did have a problem with the temperature gauge and we replaced the temp switch which seems to have solved our problem. New thermostats were installed in the vehicle. One of the thermostat housings was cracked, it was removed and the crack was fixed with a high temp epoxy as a new housing was not available locally at the time of the repair. It seems to have stopped the leak. The lights and signals all work as they should. The blower motor for the heat and defrost blows in its set positions. The radio is the only thing that does not come on or play any music and I am unsure why but it is complete and in place. The convertible top works as it should with the pull or push switch located under the left side of the dash. The doors close solidly and all the windows roll up and down as they should.
When we received the vehicle it did not have a firm brake pedal, upon further inspection the brake fluid reservoir was empty. We filled the reservoir and pumped the brakes and gained the pedal back. We did NOT bleed the brakes. The pedal is now up and stops the vehicle but we highly suggest having the brake system inspected before driving on public roads. We understand that this vehicle may have sat for an extended period of time but that time is also unknown.

This 1953 Ford is a very nice vehicle that is sure to make someone a spectacular driver and very proud to own. As stated earlier this vehicle has come from an estate and its history is unknown. The owner was a car collector and his cars all look to have been taken care of which leads me to believe that this one was given the same treatment.
