Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on my 1976 Porsche 912E #1691 - engine# 4061731, Guards Red garaged most of her life. I bought this car in March of 2005 and I know her inside and out. I have only put 14,000 miles on her in 8 years, but they have been fun. She is a pleasure to drive, runs strong and handles like a Porsche should. I hope to find a home for her where she will be appreciated for the piece of automotive art, crafting and history that she truly is. I feel like I'm letting go of my 9 year old Cocker Spaniel. If you are a dog owner you can understand that. I purchased her on ebay and paid $5,810.00 for her plus transport. This was before any buyer protection and the car I received was not the car described. The seller would not own up. She had a fast overspary paint job which was complete with bubbles, had gasoline which had laquered, bad struts, needed new half axles, rear shocks, turn signal switch, fuel pump, shifter assembly, you get the picture I believe. So, I was faced with selling her as is or putting "seroius "money into her to make her roadworthy. As a previous owner of a 1969 912, a 1968 912 and a 1965 356 I couldn't let her go even though at the time I felt she was less than a "real" 912 - I have long since come to strongly believe in the 912E as not only a true Porsche, but a revolutionized 912 which far surpasses the capabilities of the "old" 912 as an all around driver. and long range touring car. So, I decided to have the work done by a shop in Denver. Because of this expense I did nothing to the interior or exterior. I wanted a 912 to DRIVE and enjoy. So, I spent $5,160.00 to get her in excellent roadworthy condition. She came with 186,435 miles on her and the odometer went out at 196,000. Until mid 2012 I kept very good records of mileage as I drove her 96 miles to and from Denver on a irregular basis. After moving to Colorado Springs I stopped keeping records, but she was mainly driven 3 - 10 miles around town with occasional 50 mile drives. My record keeping stopped at 198,556 miles so I added an extra 2,000 miles as what I feel is an over estimate. I run 20/50 Castrol in her as she runs clean with heavier oil. She will smoke with lighter oil (this was recommened by an elderly German Porsche mechanic rather than a foolish top end job). It has worked well and she always passed CO emissions tests in Denver with a non functioning air pump. I just put a belt on it and she passed. I have recently had the exhaust anyalized and she runs pretty clean. The clutch is strong, the speedbox needs a third gear syncro as it needs to be eased into third and sometimes needs to be double clutched down shifting into third, the brakes are good. She starts and idles well. The original clock does not work and the horn center is loose. I don't know how to remove it. She has two small rust spots. One on lower front of driver's door and on at the lower driver's windshield. The battery bay is NOT rusted out though there is surface rust. I cannot confirm this, but I belive she was hit on the driver's front side. I took peeling paint off the drivers door around the handle and expected to find bondo, but there was none just a bad paint job. I then went ahead and broke the peeling paint away on the front lid and the front driver's fender to protected her with primer. So, that said, she has some defects in body and heart, but she has the stamna and endurance of a True Porsche still going strong at age 36 and 200,00 plus miles. She has been lovingly treated most of her life and in her relationship with me she has certainly returned that love. I will be glad to give you more details - recent starter replacement, new battery, new intake gaskets, good Michelin rubber, all paperwork since I have had her - and more photos of whatever details you want.
