This 1965 Ford Ranchero was donated to us. The history of it is unknown. It runs and drives but does need some work. This vehicle is being sold AS-IS as a running project.
Exterior
The body on this Ranchero is straight and the body panels seem to solid. I only found 2 spots on the rear fenders where the meet up to the bumper that appears to have some filler. The area around the windshield in the lower corners does appear to have some rust as well (pictured). There does seem to have been several coats of paint over its life as the black primer looks to cover some spots where the paint has chipped or peeled away. The bed appears to be solid although there are a couple of spots that look to have fiberglass tape and some resin over them, maybe to cover up some holes. All of the glass in the car is in good shape. The chrome bumpers have some pitting and rust forming on them. The underside of the vehicle is relatively clean looking but does have some spots that are rusted through. The same goes for the floor behind the seat in the cab. there are various other trim pieces behind the seat of the vehicle as well.
Interior
The carpet inside this Ranchero has been removed and there some floor mats in the driver and passenger compartments. The door panels are discolored and are warped. The door pulls, window cranks and handles are intact and function correctly. The dash board has also been painted with the black primer. The stereo is broken and does not function. The gauge cluster has a crack in the lower section of it but all the gauges function correctly.
Mechanical
This Ranchero's straight six fires right up but does idle a little rough. The history of the engine is unknown. It does have a ticking sound under the valve cover. It appears that the plug wires, cap, rotor, and condenser have all been changed fairly recently. The exhaust manifold is cracked and looks like it had been welded but there is a brand new manifold inside the vehicle. The engines cooling system seems to work fine as the car does not overheat (we have only driven it in the parking lot but have run it long enough to come up to temperature). The 3 speed column shift transmission shifts well. We think that there might be an issue with the throwout bearing as there is some chatter that is heard and felt when in first gear, as you shift into second is gets less noticeable. The noise goes away completely when the clutch is pushed in. This is just speculation to give an idea of what we think it is based on how it runs and sounds. When this vehicle was donated the brake pedal went straight to the floor, we added some fluid and pressure built up and it now has brakes, (this vehicle needs to have it brakes checked out before driving on the road and must be towed out for safety reasons) the reservoir did look to be rusty and the fluid that was in there didnt look very good.
Overview
This vehicle was donated to the museum and its history is unknown. This Ford Ranchero looks to be a great project car/fixer upper. This vehicle does need work to make it roadworthy again but probably not much. The brakes being the first thing that need to be looked at. This vehicle is being sold as is where is. We think this car is a great foundation for a nice little driver but needs some TLC.
