Vehicle Detail

Rare real 1978 Trans Am SE Y82 WS6 W72 Bandit Edition project car Ok, Let’s try this again. This car is not for sale locally and this auction will run to it’s end. No Reserve. Bid to own. I have added some more pictures which were taken after we got some snow here in the Chicago area. Please read the listing and look at the pictures carefully before you bid. This is a rare 1978 Trans Am SE Y82 WS6 W72 Bandit Edition project car. According to popular but unconfirmed information total production in 1978 for this car was 3,643. This car had a Pontiac 400 from the factory as evidence by the “Z” in the V.I.N. and the P.H.S. documentation. This is an “early” built Y82 (December 1977) and was built at the Norwood, Ohio assembly plant. This was the last year for the real Pontiac 400 with some rare exceptions in 1979. While I’m not an expert nor am I interested in getting into a debate with anyone about Pontiac 400/Bandit/Y82/WS6/W72 history I would encourage anyone who is interested the car or wants to learn about this to explore the various information on this subject or take look at: bandit transam club on the internet in the section called The Last Trans Am Engine and John Witzke’s dossier on the package available at 78ta website. Witzke is a Pontiac Oakland Club International Judge and is a recognized W72 expert. Also please see the P.H.S. documents for the list of the many options this car came with new. Most everything except the engine is still on the car. Obviously the car has no engine nor the engine attached accessories. The air conditioning “suit case” is damaged.. I do have the shaker scoop, but it is damaged but I believe it is repairable as you can see in the pictures. The radiator looks to be in good shape but I don’t know for sure. The radiator and “shaker” come with the car. The windshield is cracked but all the other glass including the Hurst Hatches are in good condition. I believe that the glue or welds which fasten the hood frame to the hood skin are broken so the hood is “tweaked” because when it’s closed it looks fine but when you open it it’s “twisted”. Just assume you are going to need a new hood. Please look carefully at the pictures - what you see is what you get. This is not a project for the faint of heart. Complete black interior in pretty decent shape. The center console door hinge is broken. Very few parts (besides the engine lol) are missing. Front and rear bumpers are useable. The original Fischer Body/Hurst Hatch bags are in the trunk along with the space saver spare and the spare tire hardware. Also in there is the original trunk floor pad which is pretty hard to find. It has a brand new dual exhaust system with two new catalytic converters or resonators - I can’t tell which they are. The floors are rusted out. From the dealer invoice that this car had “radio accommodation package” but no radio came from the factory. This means likely either a) a radio was installed by the dealer or an aftermarket place or b) the CB radio was installed by the dealer or aftermarket place. I have clear Illinois title in hand. I’m not going to bore you some sales pitch about what this car will be worth after it’s restored. You can do your own homework and you shouldn’t even be considering purchasing it if you don’t know what’s involved in owning and restoring a car like this. If you have no feedback, too little feedback or if you have any negative feedback or are a non paying bidder you and your bid will be deleted and blocked. If you have to ask your mom or your dad or your dog or your neighbor or your buddy or your wife or girlfriend for the money DON'T BID! If you would like to send someone or yourself to come and inspect the car in person I will make it available. I encourage you to do so. THIS CAR IS SOLD “AS IS WHERE IS”. I’ve posted a lot of pictures of the car please look at them carefully and read the ad carefully. Please call me Lou at (Eight Four Seven) 341-4720 if you have any questions. Paypal or cash only. Full payment due within 5 days of the close of the auction. I can keep the car for a few weeks so you can pick it up. Thanks for looking.
