The story: Up for sale is a 1976 BMW 2002. The car was restored both inside and out approximately in 1998. The previous owner who purchased the vehicle in the early 80's in Atlanta had passed away and the car sat for nearly 10 years before I got it. I have had it two years and lots of work has been done just to get to it to get it running to and to make some determinations of the cars engine and drivetrain. The body of this E10 is extremely solid and straight which is one of the reasons I decided to get it as these are getting harder and harder to find. I have some other priorities and a pending move overseas, so I need to find "Brownie" a new home. Below is a synposis of the car so you know exactly what you are getting and to manage your expectations. This car has the potential to be very valuable in the future but it will be some money invested first. The Good:The body is straight and solid, ready for a partial or full restoration. Everything is there but do study the pictures carefully. The car has been in the south all its 37 yearsThe classic ALPINE radio and Infiniti speakers still sound amazing.The car runs, not perfectly but mechanically ok. The car sat for a long time. The brakes, the lights, transmission, function, ect. It has the potential to be a beautiful restoration but remember its 37 years oldI have receipts totalling nearly $3500 from German Import Service of Thomasville, GA who got the car up and running. Its included a complete, brand new fuel system, tank, Weber carb, ect.The first steps have been taken to get this 2002 back where its needs to be but I need to leave that for the next person. The Bad:There is some minor rust issues so please look at the pictures carefully. The shock towers are solid. There is a rust hole in the spare tire well about 4 inches wide that will need to be welded in the future. The instrument cluster dash indicators are off, the speedo and tach are off. The fuel indication is in accuate but there is a temp guage working properly. The blower motor for the AC/heater doesn't work but didn't have it evaluated yet so not sure what the problem is, all HVAC components are in the car.The car does smoke intermittenly during driving. It is white/grey smoke. The mechanics seem to think its the valve guide seals. The car has had the 5 spd transmission conversion. The Conclusion: If you are looking for a great starter 2002 project at a low cost, this is your car. Please bear in mind the age of car. I am trying to be transparent as possible with the sale of this car but if I missed anything, please let me know. I can provide you a copy of the receipts for the work done thus car.
