Vehicle Detail
I have a 1953 Ford Ranch Wagon, TWO DOOR. I am the third owner, the second owner bought it in 1955. I have a lot of the old paperwork, maintenance and gas receipts from the 50s to the 70s when it was parked. It has the original, working radio, and the factory installation booklet. I have the old title with the embossed stamp, from when the second owner bought it from the dealer. This car has lived its entire life in Arizona. Well, at least from 1955, before that I don't know. I have the current, valid, Arizona title, signed and notarized. I have videos and photos at photobucket dot com /53ranchwagon The engine is the old 239 flathead V8. It has an oil filter, and 2 barrel carb with the oil bath air cleaner. It has dual exhaust on it. I found a receipt for the dual mufflers from way back then. I took off the oil pan and looked at the inside of the engine, and cleaned out the pan. There was sludgy oil in the pan, but no water or rust. There is a bad exhaust valve on one cylinder. I did a compression test on it, and 7 were good, but one leaks out the exhaust. I checked this with a leakdown tester. I put a new fuel pump on it. I put new spark plugs and cut-to-fit wires on it, too. It doesn't knock or rattle. It runs considerably well for its condition, but something has to be done about that exhaust valve. It idles clean but smokes when you drive it. The transmission and clutch is just fine. The car has overdrive, but I haven't tried it. The upholstery is mostly trashed. There's enough there to match up to original, and make patterns for the panels. The rear seat was folded down for many years, so it's in pretty decent condition. The insulation in the roof is still in great shape, but the headliner is toast. I put brand new whitewall tires on it, and I've driven it around the block twice, so the tires are still new. The wheels are original, all 5 of them. I put all wheel cylinders on the brakes, and did the master cylinder, and replaced a bad brake hose. I adjusted everything up and the brakes work great. I put a new battery in it, and it starts really well. It drives really well too. The headlights work, the dash lights work, tail lights work, the radio works, the heater blower works. The radiator doesn't leak, and looks really clean inside. Both doors, the rear window and the tailgate all work well. Most of the windows are broken, but they aren't the bad ones. The windshield is common to different years and models, the side windows are all flat glass that can easily be made by a glazier, and the rear window is NOT broken. In fact, I have an extra rear window and frame that is also not broken. There are the usual bent fenders at the corners of the car, but all in all it's in good shape. The roof is NOT dented, at all. Nobody did jumping jacks on the roof. The hood is also straight. Both front floorboards are rusted out, and there's a little rust in the right quarter panel area. This thing was parked for many, many years. The rust in the floors is from having broken or open windows, and rain/snow coming in. The frame is really, really clean with no rust except the usual brown color. I have one tail light lens, and one is missing. You can still buy them new for about 15-25 dollars. I'd buy used ones, and you might want new ones, so I'm just leaving that to you. more photos and VIDEO can be seen at photobucket dot com /53ranchwagon
