Vehicle Detail

The Mercury Montclair was a full-size automobile produced by the Mercury Division of the Ford Motor Company from 1955 to 1957, the M-E-L Division of Ford Motor Company 1958 to 1959 and by the Lincoln Mercury Division of the Ford Motor Company from 1964 to 1968. Its appearance followed the concept show car in 1954 called the Mercury XM-800.The vehicle name was introduced in 1955 and applied to Mercury's premium automobile line. Ford historians are at a loss as to where the name originated; the consensus is that it's taken from the upper class community of Montclair, New Jersey. For 1955 and 1956, Montclairs featured Mercury's best appointments, extra chrome trim, and different two-tone paint combinations to set them apart from other Mercury products. 1956 was the year that Ford introduced its Lifeguard safety program, and the Mercury Montclair came standard with a deep-dish steering wheel to help protect the driver from the steering column, safety door locks, a breakaway rear view mirror, and optional seat belts and padded dashboards. The dash was redesigned with a new three-tier instrument panel. This particular 1957 Montclair has been wonderfully restored with early concept car styling. The exterior has been refinished in a 3 stage House of Kolors kandy Brandywine and the paint is absolutely stunning. The front and rear bumpers were stripped and re-chromed all of the stainless trim was carefully removed and polished to perfection. The roof of the car was refinished in the original Classic white color. The interior was completely redone using a matching vanilla white and vibrant burgundy color combination. The seats were re-upholstered using the original patterns only with nicely upgraded materials. Even though the Montclair considred a higher end luxury automobile it did come standars with manual crank windows. all glass is in great condition and all windows do operate as they should. The engine is a great running 8 cylinder that starts perfect everytime and purrrrs like a kitten down the road. The Push button automatic transmission shifts smoothly and is wonderful to drive on both city streets or at highway speeds. The braking system has been upgraded to power disk brakes because the car was restored with the intention of being a driver not just a garage piece. We drive the car at leasts a couple of times per month taking it to local weekend shows and usually to a nice family dinner at least once a month. Please feel free to email any questions at all or even call 702.303.4711 as I do love to talk about and brag about my classic cars.
