Vehicle Detail
1966 GILERA 124 FL SPECIALE STRADA Up for auction is a unique and quite rare Gilera 124 FL Speciale Strada motorcycle. It is a matching numbers motorcycle (see photos) and is being sold with a clear US title in my name. I've doted over this machine for a few years now and, after much debate, have decided to turn it loose. The 124 FL SS was only manufactured one year with a total of 536 produced. 500 made their way to the US via the Gilera Atlantic Motor Corporation in late 1965. This was not a Sears catalogue motorcycle. It was a special order bike to be marketed as a lightweight factory racer with tachometer, alloy wheels, 10:1 compression ratio, Dolomiti racing seat, and 'quick detachable headlight with central plug unit'. Thirty six additional units were found years later in an out building near the Gilera factory after Piaggio purchased Gilera. These bikes are prized by Italian collectors. Mechanically this bike is tip top. Truly a first kick motorcycle. The engine has a lot of punch for a 124cc and the transmission is nice and tight. It shifts smoothly through the gear box, both up and down, without hesitation and pulls with zero clutch slip. All electrics function as they should and speedometer, odometer and tachometer are fully functional as well. I have installed a new battery, plug, set the valves and changed all fluids, and replaced the tires within the past few months. It is ready to ride. Cosmetically it presents very well with only a few nicks and scratches. The only mark of note is on the fork cover, pictured below. It's a very straight bike with zero structural damage, and is unmolested, 100% stock original. The chrome is a bit hazy and spotty in parts, but there is no corrosion / rust of any kind and it really shines up nicely. The seat has some cracking, but is still fairly supple. I wouldn't touch it. All parts are stock to the motorcycle save for the handlebars and muffler. I've retained both pieces and they are included in this auction. Parts availability for this motorcycle is very good. It shares many parts with the Sears Gilera 124, so basic items such as spark plugs, lights, gaskets, seals and many body parts are readily available. A rare bike that's easily serviceable. It's the best of both worlds! I've only seen a few of these over the years. This is by far the nicest to hit the market, and is very likely to be the finest example in North America. Again, this is a matching number bike that has a clear title in my name. Also included is the original tool kit, handbook, marketing literature, and the original title dated June 14th 1966 for you to retain. All shipping arrangements are to be made by the buyer at their expense. I will do my best to accommodate a smooth transaction on my end. Potential buyers are welcome to contact me with any questions via eBay or on my cell at 917 797 3380. A viewing can be arranged if you have a sincere interest in purchasing the motorcycle. A reasonable reserve has been set and a Buy It Now price has been placed on the listing for those of you who would like to avoid the auction process. Best of luck with your bidding and, most importantly, have fun! kwds: ducati mv agusta morini motobi benelli parilla laverda vespa lambretta rumi harley honda kawasaki bmw
