1978 Chevy El Camino SS I contacted GM Archive Vehicle Invoices in Livonia MI They where a little perplexed by the cars vin. and sent me what they could verify about the car below. One thing they did tell me was this particular car was assembled at not 1, but 2 plants !! Its a unique car just being how optioned it is, the story behind it is probably even more interesting. Did a big wigg special order it ? I think Im the 3rd owner and as far as I know the cars been here in Az its whole life. 1978 El Camino SS GREAT factory color combo Silver w/ Carmine red Matching #s original 350 4v w/ very rare factory 4 speed. Loaded with options / Very rust FREE AZ car / truck. Aprox 3% of the Caminos sold in 78 had a manual trans. so this SS is close to 1 out of 3000 ever built that yr. Unmolested drivetrain which are getting harder to find. This cars been off the road for about the last 15 yrs now. Az had taken its toll on the original silver paint and the last owner de trimmed it and primered the outside with hopes of painting it, but never got around to it. Mileage shows 110k on it , and is probably original. DRIVETRAIN: factory small block 350 runs, drives and brakes just fine. Only reason it cant be a daily driver at the moment is due to the fact headlites etc have been removed. Fuel pump is new and under the hood looks all factory. The throw out bearing does make noise when you have the clutch pedal depressed, But the clutch feels fine and the 4 speed shifts well. INTERIOR: Car was well loaded and optioned from the factory with the typical SS options. Im thinking it could of been a Choo Choo car because the lack of the SS emblem in the cluster. Windows have been tinted like most cars here in Tucson for yrs but the heat and sun still has taken its toll on it. I have the door panels & factory AM/FM 8 track radio missing in the pics. Carpet is worn out as you may expect for a non restored car. Front bucket seats are a nice option. The previous owner did add a kill switch mounted on the dr side door. You could paint the car and drive as is or fully restore it. EXTERIOR: Currently in primer, I see NO signs of previous body damage on the car or any bonda or rust ever on the body. Chrome on the bumpers looks great. All the stainless and trim that was removed from the car is in very nice shape and will come with the car and packed safely with the car for transport. ALL the glass is good except with ft windshield is cracked. IF there is a winner and they want it replaced before shipping the car I can help get it done for a fair extra cost. 140 PICS, it may take a full minute for them all to load if you have a slow connection, so be patient. Odometer shows aprox 110k miles which I believe could be original. Az gets maybe 12" a yr of rain. Check out All the pics and then look for more info AFTER the pics etc. There are over 90, make sure you use the schroll bar on the side to see them all. There you have it, probably The BEST represented Caminos on Ebay. Shows you all the good as well as any bad, hope you liked the pics. If you decide to buy someone elses El Camino we wish you the best but ours is prob the best represented and most rust free too. In the pics notice all the extra parts that come with the car. I believe 90% of the parts missing in the pics are in these boxes, making the car very complete and original. This includes exterior and interior. The cars being sold with the steel wheels with just roller tires shown in most of the pics. We are offering the factory 15" S10 Alloy rims to the winner as an option for $200 obo for the set of 4. The 18" 2012 Camaro SS wheels shown on the car in some of the pics with tires are ALSO optional to the winner for an extra $600 (this includes the billet adaptors used for correct installation and fitment).
