This 1973 Mercedes 280 SEL was donated to the California Automobile Museum and is now being offered for sale.
Exterior
The paint on this Mercedes is in good shape and has a nice shine to it. This vehicle has been painted at some point and the emblems on the trunk were removed and filled. There are 2 dents on the vehicle, one on the trunk and the other on the hood (both pictured). The chrome is complete and is shiny. All of the lenses are complete but the front right turn lens has a crack in it. all of the glass in the vehicle is complete and do not have any cracks in them. There is some rust on this vehicle in the rear quarter panels. On the left side behind the tire rust has gone through to the trunk which you can see from inside the trunk. The left side has some bubbling of the paint.
Interior
The interior of this Mercedes is very clean. The seats are in great shape for their age and do not have any rips or tears in them. The carpet is clean but has some slight wear to it. The dash is in good shape but the wood trim on the interior needs to be redone as the coating is starting to peel.
Mechanical
Mechanically this vehicle is in good shape. the engine fires right up but does have a slight knock to it when cold. It does not smoke out of the tailpipe. It does appear to have or had an oil leak at one time as the engine does have some oil on it. The transmission shifts as it should. The tires on the vehicle have a good amount of tread left on them but the tires are showing signs of their age and have some cracking in them. The left rear door will not open because I can't get the door to unlock. The windows are electric and the drivers side seems to be off its track and does not go up and down without help pulling the window up. The right rear one goes down by itself but needs help up also, the other two windows work fine. The sunroof opens and closes as it should but is a bit slow in doing so. I think that everything may just need to be lubricated. The doors open well and they close solidly. All of the lights work correctly but when put into the right turn signal position it will not flash. The headlights and high beams work.
