1993 Volvo 240 DL Wagon Last Year Made 156,730K Original Miles with All Service Records The Silver Fox a.k.a. Sven We bought Sven, The Silver Fox in October or 2011 from a young man in NJ. He had just gotten it from his grandmother but it seemed a wagon was not for him so he detailed it, got some new tires for it and put it up for sale. His grandmother was a doctor's wife. It was originally purchased and serviced for years at Bridgewater Volvo, which is one of the nations top Volvo dealers (in fact, winner of the 2011 Volvo Dealer Award). All of the service records were in tact and, for being 18 years old, it was in great shape and had very low miles (140k). It was bought so that we could commute from Brooklyn to a location upstate near Bard College once per week but we also ended up driving it on longer trips such as to Ann Arbor, Michigan and several to Vermont and PA. Sven has been a real trooper. We've had it serviced here in Brooklyn and upstate for everything standard from oil changes to tire rotation to brakes and fluid flushes. Sven has been a great, sturdy car. It would be a great student car, getaway car for people trying to get out of the city or for the Volvo enthusiast - if you are one, you know that '93 was the pinnacle year for the 240 but sadly, the last year it was made. The heat is hot, the AC is ice-cold. Check out the photos to see if you can find any rust! Two snow tires installed on rear. The engine does not burn through oil. It would be awesome if Sven could have a new paint job on the hood and roof though maybe this would not bother you (looks like tree sap damage). Little quirks as you'd expect in a Volvo and a car of 20 years old which you can read about below. Quirks If you are a Volvo owner or enthusiast, then you sure know these quirks. They are to be expected. Maybe it's we we love our Swedish Bricks so much. The heated seat lights come on intermittently or not at all though the heaters work. The passenger-side power window button does not function for "up" though it can be put up via the driver's side. There is a cracked off piece of the driver's side door map/item holder. The reverse lens is missing from the driver's side rear light. The fog light display light does not light up nor are the lights working though this is probably just a fuse or the bulbs themselves. There are a couple tears in the driver's seat leather as pictured. Fixable with a kit. The back-seat latch release has broken off. It is workable via a screwdriver. A new one is about $15. The four-speaker stereo system should be upgraded - or at least the rear left speaker which has a thump/muffled sound. The cassette player works intermittently; we've always used Ipod/Iphones with wireless hook-up. A few of those plastic toggle clips are missing from cargo area; while they are not necessary, you can get a bunch for 60 cents each to have on hand. Our preferred websites for parts is IPD, FCP Groton or eEuroparts. The first two, especially, have all the hard-to-find OEM parts and great prices too. Future Repairs We have all the service records going back to the original owner so feel free to ask a question about something particular and we will do our best to find it out. We have had the oil changed every 3000 miles since we acquired it. If you are concerned about esthetics, the paint could be redone on the hood and roof especially. We cannot determine if it was a factory defect or if the first owner had parked the car under a tree (bird droppings or sap?) but both these areas have spotting/flaking of the clear coat. Due to this, the paint under those spots has taken on a darker tone. We've noticed that when reversing up a hill, the car seems to want to grab but slips then grabs. Recent service to front brakes/calipers. This car is now celebrating its 20th birthday so unless you are a Volvo enthusiast, please be aware that a car of this age will require regular maintenance and could require more attention. Always let it warm up til the temperature hits the "range" and change the oil/check the fluids often. This is NOT an oil burner though by any means! This 1993 Volvo 240 DL Wagon is being sold As-Is from Private Individual with no warranty, nor does this car qualify under any lemon law statutes as it is not being sold by a dealer.. Prospective buyers understand that by bidding on a car of this age, they are bidding on a car which could require repairs of any cost and at any time after purchase. The seller has done their best to describe any defects/issues known to them at time of this posting through daily driving experience and through conversation with their mechanic.
