Vehicle Detail
Recently painted British Racing Green 1977 MGB with 95,579 miles. Unrestored clean tan and black interior, 4 cylinder, 4 speed, runs great. Pioneer CD/AM/FM. Front suspension including lever shock absorbers completely refurbished. Good top, boot cover, tonneau cover, all in black. Wire wheels recently painted, serviced, and balanced. Engine head replaced about 15,000 miles ago. Car was converted to twin carbs by previous owner because he preferred the original MGB setup. They have worked flawlessly. Just completed professional service. Replaced spark plugs, flushed and replaced engine oil, tested compression as good. Car runs excellently. Known flaws include inaccurate fuel gauge (reads accurately for first half tank) and missing sun visors. Great MG for further restoration. The hard part has been done. New paint is very nice though not perfect. However, it's good enough to get favorable attention. Call Bill at 573-280-0532. Already had two gentlemen look at the car and they agreed it is priced correctly...not a full restoration but respectable looking and ready to enjoy and improve as you desire. I prefer to sell locally and prospective buyers are encouraged to see the car in person before committing to buy. It was the first MGB he looked at so he was understandably not prepared to buy. I prefer to sell locally and prospective buyers are encouraged to see the car in person before committing to buy. It's always a challenge to properly represent an old car to buyers on the Internet. Photos always look better than reality. Fortunately, I have my service work performed at the semi-private shop of a local car collector where I went this morning to have a heater valve replaced. My car started up without too much trouble on a 14 degree morning. Their opinion is that no Internet buyer should be disappointed in the condition of the car. It runs strong and looks good. The paint has "orange peel" like any Maaco-grade paint job, but buffing and clear coating is all it needs to make it really sharp. It looks good as is. Here is my description of the re-painting experience. A little over two years ago, I looked into repainting my car and didn't want to spend a lot of money because I'm not a collector and want to use my MG. My car was very solid, but with 30 years of dings and rust appearing in the rocker panels and ground level parts of the fenders. I visited Maaco, but was convinced all they would do is paint over those issues. So I found a friend with car painting expertise and traded my skills for his skills. We worked on the MG together and sanded it down to metal wherever there was evidence of rust. If the damage was small, we repaired with bondo. We welded metal where we had a bigger hole in front of the driver's side rear wheel well. We opened up the rocker panels, blew out accumulated crud and injected rust inhibiter. Although rust can't be eliminated in old MG's, we didn't want to just cover it up and have it poke through a year later. It's been over two years and there is no evidence of surface rust through the new paint. I hope these additional comments help you in your decision.
