Allow us to articulate a concept: You buy a dinner jacket, black of course. Matching slacks, shoes, belt, cufflinks, tie, then go the extra mile by having it perfectly tailored to your dimensions. And once you've finally suited up, you go to the couch and just watch television for the rest of forever.
A waste of effort right? Don't get us wrong. We love watching television, but we ensure we are attired appropriately for it. And believe us, if we could get away with selling cars clad only in our Superman tighty-whiteys, we would. But we can't. So we don't.
Which is why this 2007 Lotus Exige S in Phantom Black confuses us a tad. An impressive runner in stock form, this has been teched-out to the point of absurdity: AP Racing big brakes front AND rear, Ohlins 'Cup' suspension, exhaust and exhaust header, coolant and oil backup reservoirs, upgraded intercooler, aluminum oil pan, rear carbon diffuser, forged wheels, Schroth harness, the list goes on and on.
Yet a full ECU report (basically the electronic equivalent to your tattle-tail little cousin) shows an embarrassingly pampered existence. Only 1 minute and 3 seconds above 7,500 rpm. Compare that to over 260 hours at less than 3,500 rpm. And the maximum recorded top speed is just shameful... barely cracking 100 mph. If this had ever been on a track, we'd point and laugh.
We do not care if you wear a tuxedo or a Speedo, but when you buy this blistering speed demon from the blackest pits of oblivion, drive like it.
