Two of my favorite words for describing great automobiles. No car from that wonderful early 60’s era epitomizes those words better than the 1964 Ranchero. Here’s a classic truck that can haul you and your stuff around town in style while getting 24 MPG; more on the highway at a steady 65 MPH. Not only does it do it efficiently but it is beyond fun to drive; having plenty of power and lots of low end torque. These little 6-Cylinder Engines are bullet-proof and this one has been rebuilt to a very high standard. This vehicle was built in Southern California and stayed here it’s entire life and it shows from the amazing condition of this impeccable body, trim and undercarriage. While we don’t have a complete ownership history it really doesn’t matter since it was completely disassembled and rebuilt from the ground up from 2009 to 2012. It took almost three years to complete the restoration and has traveled less than 2500 miles since it was completed. The last owner had the car for roughly four years and he got it from his daughters Father-In-Law who owned a shop in Huntington Beach where it was used sparingly for 18 years as a local delivery truck. We see many vehicles that go through varying degrees of restoration. What we notice is many times some components are done and others are left original. This can sometimes lead to what we call a “mismatched” restoration. It just does not come together as a complete package. What struck us immediately on this Ranchero was the uniformity we found in every area of the vehicle. Simply put, everything was attended to in this little Ranchero. When your eye goes from exterior paint to interior paint or door rubber to rubber hugging the wheels or glass to trim or bumpers to undercarriage or exhaust, everything “pops”. It has that look and feel of the day it rolled off the assembly line. And this rig comes with a BOOK of receipts verifying the restoration. It also comes with a Factory Shop Manual and Original Owner’s Manual (reproduction). BODY & PAINT The Body and Paint on this fully restored example is simply impeccable. The body was all original metal when this fellow was stripped and media blasted in preparation for it’s new layers of PPG Skin. In this case a two-stage Polyurethane was used in it’s original color palette of Wimbledon White. Even though these cars did not come from the factory with two-stage paint, it looks great on this car in white and is not “over-done”. There are ZERO signs of rust repair or body damage anywhere on this vehicle. Upon close inspection of the body panels you will notice the entire body to be laser straight and the gaps to be exact on every sequence of the moveable panels. Take a look at the detailed pictures of all body gaps to see it for yourself. And the paint is smooth and delicious to say the least. The Chrome was obviously redone recently and shines up to a show level. This is definitely a show quality paint job on a near concour level body. Aside from the really cool local SoCal surf stickers applied to the rear bumper this little Ranchero has been kept identical to how it was delivered from the Factory in Los Angeles; right down to the original style Falcon hubcaps and trim rings. We left the stickers on but can be easily removed. INTERIOR The Interior on this vehicle was completely replaced during the restoration and was done to the highest standard of replication to original. The seats, carpet, headliner and door panels were all replaced. The correct color paint was ordered and applied to all interior painted panels. At the time of disassembly and repaint all window felt and door rubber was replaced. As well interior trim pieces were either re-plated or replaced giving the interior a uniform and completed look. When the paint was applied the original front and rear windows were removed and put back in with new window seals. The interior materials are all original colors and styles as to the factory specifications, ordered specially from a Ford upholstery house. Sample specs and swathes from the fabricator accompany the paperwork if you ever need to reorder original materials to match. Carpet Insulation was used to keep the interior noise levels down; it works. At freeway speeds the sound level is noticeably quiet. The Bench Seat is covered by a clip-on Surf Branded Cover. It is some work to take it on and off so I peeled it back to expose the new upholstery for pictures without removing completely. It is all brand new and in perfect shape. DRIVETRAIN This little six-banger rocks. It runs, shifts and drives with flawless ease. It drives down the road straight and true without a wobble, a hitch or as much as a squeak. The three speed trans and clutch work smoothly and easily and is a lot of fun to drive. Mechanically the engine was rebuilt some time ago and then recently during the restoration the entire top end was rebuilt with a newly rebuilt cylinder head along with a new timing chain and installation of a new electronic ignition. There is over $6000 in just mechanical receipts from this recent restoration period. We don’t know what was done previously, but we know it had been rebuilt once before. In addition to the engine work the following things were done to the car mechanically: Rebuilt Cylinder Head and New Timing Chain Brand New Concour Plated Autolite 1100 Carburetor Differential Axle Bearing and Seals in the Rear End Clutch Assembly and Flywheel Complete Rebuild to 3-Speed Transmission U-Joints Replaced Brand New Remanufactured Generator in 2012 Installed Igniter II Electronic Ignition System & Flame Thrower II Coil Exhaust and Muffler Heater Core - 2” Thick Fuel Sending Unit Fuel Tank Filler Hose Complete Brake Shoes and Wheel Cylinders Front Brake Cable Front End - including all new Bushings and Ball Joints License Plate Light Assembly Tail-light to Body Pads replaced All Rubber Seals throughout body The Undercarriage on this fine example is clean and tidy with the fitment of a new exhaust system. The undercarriage had been detailed and painted during the restoration process and still has a relatively fresh look after only traveling a couple of thousand miles since restoration. There are many more items that I could address... things like all the clips in the door panels replaced and dozens of receipts for little nicks and nacks that brought this build to completion in a nice tidy and complete package. This little Ranchero has it all and you will not be disappointed with any aspect of the restoration to this very original and near perfect bodied California time capsule. We would rate this vehicle as Show Car or Show Driver. You will be proud of this vehicle no matter if you are driving it around town, using it as your Company Advertising Moniker or taking it to a Ford Collector Meet thousands of miles away.
