Vehicle Detail
This is a true 242 1970 Pontiac GTO!!! This GTO was factory ordered in code 78 Burgundy, with a black vinyl top as those codes appear on the data plate. When was the last time you saw one of these in this sleek color combination?? This is the perfect Christmas present for that GTO lover in your life! The title is open, clean, and clear waiting for Santa to deliver this goat with his reindeer. This GTO was last titled in 1986, and at the time of my purchase still had the original paint that was starting to fade. There were no signs of this goat ever being involved in any type of accident. There was very little body work needed to this very clean body. It was stripped, sanded, and blocked before it was sealed then freshened up with three base coats of the original factory code 78 Burgundy, followed by 3 coats of Dupont clear to bring this glossy finish to a mirror shine. Some people might consider this paint work to be show quality, but I would like to state that it simply looks very nice as seen in the pictures. The original black vinyl top was showing wear, so it was removed, and replaced with a brand new period correct black vinyl top. There was no rust under the original vinyl top. That is always a very good sign that a car of this age spent very little time out in the elements. This car is for the guy or girl who had a goat in high school or used to see someone else Grrring around town, and now can afford to do some Grrring of their own. It's also a cool car to take to the local drive-in movie theater or cruise night. The chrome is all in nice drivers quality condition or better. A great deal of items were replaced on this car to make it a car anyone will be proud to drive. The roof rail gaskets were replaced, some of the window felts that needed replacement were replaced, and also the trunk gasket was replaced. These doors still open and close like when this goat was new, and the key still matches the doors, and the ignition. This baby is steered by a very nice original GTO wood steering wheel with the very rare original PMD horn button. The bucket seats are still in very nice condition showing minimal wear as seen by the pictures. The console gear shift still lights up aqua at night, and the gears are shifted with a new shifter cable. This goat has the original dual scooped hood in very nice condition, and dual sport mirrors with the drivers side being remote controlled. Under the hood, both of the front steel wheel houses are brand new. The dash pad is brand new, and the wood grain insert around the gauges has been replaced with new factory wood grain as well. The factory 140mph speedometer showing 89,888 miles, that are believed to be the original miles, and the original rally gauges are included separately with this auction. They will need to be restored to be placed back in the dash. Currently a factory working gas gauge, and speedometer showing just over 17,000 miles is in the car. The speedometer, odometer, gas gauge, and the original factory in-dash tachometer all work as they should. The factory Pontiac AM/FM stereo radio mounted in the dash is not hooked up, but is believed to work. I just didn't want to cut speaker holes in the nice new package tray to mount speakers. The sound system will be left up to the choice of the new owner. The dual exhaust has a nice rumble to it, so you can really feel that blast from the past with dual exhaust tips that were just installed. This goat is fueled by a new black powder coated gas tank. The master cylinder was just replaced, along with the front calipers, front brake hoses, front brake pads, rear brake shoes, rear wheel cylinders, and all new braking hardware. Yes! This goat does have front disc brakes! The oil, oil filter, anti-freeze, transmission fluid, transmission pan filter, and gaskets, air cleaner, points, rotor, condenser, distributor cap, spark plugs, and spark plug wires were all recently changed to prepare this car for sale. The top and bottom radiator hoses, the temperature switch, and all the belts were just replaced. This car runs and drives great powered by the sweet Pontiac 400 with new GTO chrome valve covers, and the correct numbers matching 4 barrel quadrajet carburator for a 1970 GTO was freshly rebuilt. The infamous dual snorkel GTO air cleaner was detailed, and has a new chrome air cleaner lid. The water pump, timing chain, and the fuel pump were all recently changed. There is a nice heavy duty 3-core radiator, with new stainless steel transmission cooling lines. The turbo 400 transmission was completely rebuilt. I believe all of the body panels to be original to this car. The passenger front floor pan has been replaced, and the balance of the floors were detailed. The trunk pan looks awesome as shown in the pictures. and detailed with AC Delco black and aqua spatter spray. The frame is also in good condition, and was painted to match the rest of the undercarriage. The speedometer, odometer, head lights, bright lights, tail lights, brake lights, cornering lights, dash lights, and even the license plate light all work as they should. Both head lights are brand new, and both bright lights are original T-3 bright lights. The entire interior shows very well as seen in the pictures with all of the seat belts in place. There is an all new headliner with a new package tray on the back deck under the rear window. The carpet is newer with the extra padding underneath, and new black floor mats. The wipers work fine on both speeds, and new wiper blades were just installed. There is a very nice pair of 235/60R14 raised white lettered Widetrack Radial S/R tires on the front, and a matching pair of 245/60R14 inch tires on the back with nice tread to make this Widetrack Pontiac sit up just right. They are mounted on a set of nicely detailed Pontiac rally wheels with all four beauty trim rings, and all four black PMD center caps. The freshly restored wheels are bolted on with all new chrome lug nuts. The suspension is all tight with rear air shocks in case anyone would like to raise or lower the back of the car as they desire. The rear-end is a 10 bolt, but I am unaware of the gear ratio. There is a new trunk mat that sits inside a nicely detailed trunk with an original restored jack, and crowbar. Inside the trunk is a full size Pontiac Rally wheel with a raised white lettered spare tire just in case there is a mishap on the road. With a quick tire change you can be on your way looking complete. Everywhere you drive this car people are attracted to it like a magnet. You must be prepared to be the spectacle of the neighborhood. These cars are getting harder and harder to come across. It is very rare to find an original color combination GTO. I tried to replace all of the factory decals to make this car appear as it would have looked the day it rolled out of the factory onto the showroom floor. Take advantage of this chance to finally get your dream car. These classic muscle cars have shown to consistently appreciate in value. This is a prime opportunity to own a piece of muscle car history at a fraction of that price. A great deal of time, money, and effort went into making the car you see listed in this description. What you see is exactly what you get! Plain and simple! The Nada Classic Car Price Guide has the current values that anyone can check on-line for a 1970 Pontiac GTO listed at $64,260 in the highest condition, $37,260 in average condition, and $16,942 in the lowest condition. I believe this fine example to be in much better than what the Nada guide would classify as average condition.
