Vehicle Detail

For sale is my 1971 VW Bus. I've owned it for about 20 years. I've owned many many VW's over the years and this was the one I wanted to keep. No leaky camper top, disc brakes, no rust last year of quality Westfalia interior. These are the best engines ever created. And that's why an exact replica of this is on a pedestal in the Henry Ford Museum I can tell you how to keep it running and running. More what not to do than what to do, as in DO NOT put a Porsche engine in will ruin tranny, also Weber carbs are under suspicion, increase horsepower but terrible gas mileage. These engines are what they are and they're great. Also forget air conditioning, will play havac with engine and don't need it with vent system. I keep all the fluids in it (Lucas oil stabilizer, synthetic oil, etc.) that will keep it running for years. I never store it with gas in it. We bought it on Miami Beach about 18 years ago and eventually stored it in South Carolina, took it back to Chiefland Florida, was stored in vacation home there for years, finally brought it to Kentucky where we now live. We are retired and wife is on disability. We are moving and wife will not haul it around anymore. Rebuilt engine about 2 years ago. I have rebuilt many engines on my Volks over the years. Not more than a few miles on it. This is a 1500cc that John Muir says are the best there are. 1600 can burn valves with vacuum leak. I have gone over every nook and cranny and everything is good. New clutch New pressure plate Pilot bearing New rear brake New brake cables New heater cables (heater works!) Rebuilt carb Installed gauges (voltmeter, tachometer, oil pressure) Always install External oil cooler with spin on filter. All electrical works Interior electric plug works (camping plug) Centrifigle advance distributor Synthetic oil, Lucas oil stabilizer All new door seals Fairly new paint, couple of little spots need touched up. Interior repainted, wood paneling and floors, front seats show some wear but very good. Engine # original VW Extra parts: Generator, voltage reg, 3 ignition coils, central adv dist, accel cable All keys and locks work. Tires are like new
