Vehicle Detail
This is a rare 1956 Hudson Hornet Special, with the AMC-built 250 V8, and 3-speed overdrive. It runs and drives around the neighborhood, but will need some work to go a long distance. The body is generally good, with one older repaint in the original "Golden Brown" color. The paint is dull, but would polish up and look okay. There are rust holes next to the taillights, and small holes at the bottom front fenders. The bottoms of the rockers have rusted away underneath, and will need to be repaired. The visible parts of the rockers have small holes. The floors do not appear to be rusted through anywhere. There are a few minor dents, and one end of a front fender trim strip is broken off. The V-trim on one rear door is scraped. The engine runs, but runs on 7 cylinders half the time; we think it may be just plug wires, but we're not sure. It doesn't smoke, but it does leak some oil when running, either from the rear main seal or the back of the pan. The exhaust pipe and crossover are rusty, and will need to be replaced. A tune-up would be a very good idea. The clutch is smooth, but needs free play adjusted. The transmission shifts well, but we haven't driven the car fast enough to try the overdrive. The brakes and steering work well. The radiator has been recently rebuilt, and the gas tank cleaned. The headlights, taillights, brake lights, license lights, and horn all work. The turn signals, parking lights, and dome light do not work. The interior is original, but the front seat fabric is worn out, and the foam rubber has crumbled. The kick panels are worn, and the bottoms of the front door panels are ragged. The back seat is better, but has small holes and stains. The dash pad is warped, and the paint is peeling from the steering wheel. The floor and trunk mats are original, with some wear. The radio and heater do not work; the Ranco valve leaks. The tires are bald and cracked, and will need to be replaced immediately. The hubcaps are dented (with some cracks around the edges), and the paint on the wheels is worn. The Windshield has a crack that goes around underneath the mirror. There is also one large rock chip near the center. The rest of the glass is good. The original chrome is pretty good on the tailfins, grille, hood ornament, and rear bumper. The front parking lights are pitted, and the front bumper has some rusty scrapes. The Hudson has a clear title, and a lot of potential. It includes the original jack, owner's manual, and several of the shop manuals. This car could be completely restored, but would not be very difficult to get on the road as a fun driver, with patina.
