Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Up for sale is a one of the best preserved, 60K original mile 300D’s left in existence. A truly beautiful, classic Mercedes. This is one of the very first imported 300D’s into the U.S as per the VIN#. These 300D’s in the early teardrop body sedan are the best combo in safety, style, and efficiency. This beautiful car started out in the great state of Iowa, purchased by a repeat Mercedes owner. We even have a promo Mercedes book on this car from 1974, prior to the introduction of the car into the U.S. The original owner had saved several newspaper articles on the “new” 300D 5 cyl. and they will come with the car. We have the original owner’s manuals and service manual showing the mileage progression as it had been filled out by the local dealer in Iowa as the car was taken for service. Mechanical: The drive-line is superb. The engine is dry, clean, and leak free and runs perfectly smooth. It has the signature Mercedes “ping” sound that is prevalent in a properly tunes and maintained Mercedes diesel. No smoke or oil burning, just smooth, quiet operation. The A/C is ice cold and the complete heater/ventilation system functions properly. The engine fluids and filters were just recently serviced and have less than 200 miles. The transmission shifts smooth, quiet, and precise, as you would expect for 60K miles, No usual jumping or slamming or late shifts as which are common on 90% of these cars. The front suspension and steering are precise, tight, and responsive. The rear end is tight, and free of any excess lash or play. She does have new rear axles and new KYB shocks all around. New front tires were just installed and the rears are over 60%. The brakes, front and rear have less than 200 miles and are factory Mercedes pads. Clean, clean, clean and original is all I can say about the complete chassis and undercarriage. It is very evident that this car was never used in bad weather or abused. Simply the cleanest, original 37 year old chassis I have ever seen. Electrical: All electrical is functioning properly. The battery is a new, top of the line Delco heavy duty battery made for this car. The only issue is the radio. It has a mind of it’s own and works the majority of the time and sounds perfect. Every once in a while it refuses to come on. But, if you leave it on, but silent for five or ten minutes, it eventually comes on. All lighting both interior and exterior work properly and does the trunk light and fog lights. Headlight bezels are original and perfect with no aging as the car has been garage most of it’s life. Power windows work fast and smooth. Even the “fasten Seatbelt” warning buzzer works and lights up momentarily when you star the car. Amazing. Interior: The original interior is in beautiful condition with no damage or tears. The headliner in perfect. The seats will eventually need new padding. If you are familiar with old Mercedes, then you know that the fiber matting they use starts to break down. Can be easily replace by any uph. Shop. The dash wood is absolutely beautiful, as are the gauges, console, and controls. The dash pad had a couple of cracks, so the original owner had one of those hard plastic covers installed, which is not the best. I would remove it as the dash underneath is far better, but the plastic one does protect the original dash. Absolutely no cracking on the top of the door panels. The carpets are beautiful. In the pictures, you will see the rear has two original floor mats, but rest assured the original carpet underneath is perfect. Even the rubber sill plates are beautiful, as is the door welting and all trim. All in all, a simply beautiful original interior showing slight aging, but conducive with 60K cared for miles. Body: The body is absolutely beautiful. Mostly original Mercedes Midnight Blue. It appears that the hood and left fender were repainted years ago, but to a high standard. You will not notice. Looks perfect. The rest of the original paint is beautiful. Very, very straight body that will absolutely amaze you. The outside bright work is shiny and straight. The front bumper has a slight ding, but small. All weather stripping is original and soft and supple. No wind or air leaks. A very well sealed and quiet cabin. All in all, a truly beautiful exterior and body that show definite pride of ownership and will be admired everywhere she goes. Even the grill insert appears new and has no sun or weather aging. You will be very proud of this classic Mercedes wherever you drive her. If you ever had the desire to own a classic Mercedes and a diesel, this is the one to collect and own. Ready to add to your elite collection, but is more than capable of cruising the highway for hours in comfort and reliability. This car is truly for the astute automobile collector who recognizes that you just can find a “real” low mileage Mercedes diesel. People on Ebay claim that 135K is low miles. Have you ever seen one with 60K documented real miles? Never! This is your one and only chance to be the top Mercedes diesel collector with this ultra rare, early 300D with 60K original miles and with the documentation, you can actually back it up and get superb fuel economy at the same time! Truly one of the last around, don’t pass up this chance to get in on the elite collector Mercedes Diesel market. This car is truly an investment that will do nothing but appreciate. Please check the NADA price guide and the Hagerty’s value guides to see how this car has been and continue to appreciate in the very near future. You will also see that our price is way under the collector market. All in all, a beautifully preserved and maintained rare Mercedes. Not perfect, but if you wanted her that way, it wouldn’t take much and she would be a show winner. One of a kind and it shows everywhere you look throughout this beautiful example of the best German engineering at it’s finest! Reserve set low for immediate sale…One of the best investments you can make. Thank you.
