Vehicle Detail
1974 PINZGAUER 710M Soft top with rear passenger seats (10 passenger total) This is one wonderful truck, solid as a rock and no rust (this is pinzgauer owner speak for saying there is no cancer, there is superficial rust but this is always something when you scratch it eventually it gets a little rust). I've been asked by a friend to sell the truck due to the fact he can no longer get himself into the cab and he reluctantly needs to sell. Over the last 11 years I have imported over fifteen 710M’s and 712M’s as well as several K. trucks and two ambulances. This was a truck that was imported by a older gentlemen (a neighbor and a friend) directly from the Swiss Army in 1997. This truck was placed in his barn and rarely driven but maintenance was continued. This is one of the very best running 710 M Pinzgauers’ I have ever driven. The story is that the engine was replaced (Swiss Army ) just prior to being shipped to United States. The odometer was turned back and currently shows 4,600 kilometers (on the new engine). The gentleman has the paperwork, unfortunately he has early stages of dementia and from one day to the next I've been having difficulty keeping him on task in rounding up all of the paperwork. This work continues, but the way this truck runs with so little vibration smooth and very consistent power I have no reason to doubt the claim. The truck works well in both high and low gears and will travel over 60 miles an hour with absolutely no problem. There is no loss of power at any point in the power band and it is also fairly quiet except in high gears, fifth gear prior to 100 kilometers per hour were there is the usual buzz gear noise which diminishes quickly after reaching 100 kilometers. This will sound strange but each one of these units that we have received over the years has a certain personality , some seem a little angry and some give you a real feeling of insecurity because they do little strange things and make strange noises sometimes. This is a very happy truck, very consistent never any real strange sounds, cold-blooded in the morning but not bad and once it warms up it'll run all day with absolutely no problem. I think it is one of the best 710 M’s I've had the pleasure of driving.. One of the reasons I think it is a new engine is that it has been getting stronger the more I drive it and I love to drive this Unit. And just to prove my point, I will happily drive this unit 500 plus miles in any direction to deliver it after the sale. All I ask is that you pay the gas and a cheap airline ticket back home. I say this with absolutely no hesitation. I changed the fluids as soon as I received the unit I found no metal in the oil or on the magnetic drain plugs, which is unusual; it always seems that there's a little bit of metal shavings from our experience in the past, it's our understanding that this is normal. GREAT! To not see any at all is a first for me. As you can imagine I was quite pleasingly surprised. I took this unit off road through some very difficult terrain as well as some very, very large tank traps and it performed flawlessly. It went into four-wheel-drive immediately and all the interlocks on both front and rear moved right into position and worked as designed with out any hesitation I would take this unit anywhere (except the Arctic without proper canvas :-)). I can not lie its a little cold on the 20 degree mornings. The canvas in the front and center canvas is brand-new from Swiss Army vehicles (came Friday), the old canvas in the front and center was bad. I am still hoping that the old guy can find the back canvas, but I'm not holding my breath. I was going to put new tires on the truck, but as we all know that is such deep personal thing I felt it was probably best to leave to the new owner. The hydraulics work flawlessly, the transmission is tight and works flawlessly even though the biased tires are warn the truck tracks GREAT with absolutely no problems. With new radial tires this will be one sweet ride and it will help the performance on the road greatly. I will list everything that I have found to be missing at this point, the older gentlemen believes he has all of the parts, but I'm having a hard time finding some of these things. This list may change and I will keep you updated. The ax is missing as well as the shovel. I'm looking for an extra shovel that I had, but to this day I have not found it, but I'm still hopeful We have the chains, manuals service manual and I'm hoping to have all of the other documents that he is promised that are to be delivered on Monday. I will keep you updated Production began in 1971, The Pinzgauer first generation model 710 was produced until 2000 by Steyr-Daimler-Puch in the city of Graz, Austria. It was, and is in use in many armies around the world like Austria, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Albania, and Bolivia. The Pinzgauer was designed to be reliable and easy to fix; it is shipped with an air-cooled petrol engine with dual- Zenith 36 mm NDIX carburetors. The engine in the Pinzgauer was specifically designed for the vehicle; it has more than one oil pump so that the engine will not get starved of oil no matter how the vehicle is orientated. The Pinzgauer has a chassis design which contributes to its high mobility. It has a central tube chassis with a transaxle which distributes the weight more evenly, and keeps the centre of gravity as low as possible. The differentials are all sealed units and require minimal additional lubrication. The Pinzgauer also has portal axles like the Unimog to provide extra clearance over obstacles. The 710 4x4 was the more popular variant, but the Pinzgauer was designed to have a very capable 6x6 configuration from the start. Model Year: 1974 On Nov-02-12 at 08:29:10 PDT, seller added the following information: November 1, 2012 UPDATE The truck is running magnificently, the old guy delivered some manuals yesterday and he is still looking for the ax and shovel and rear canvas. I do have to admit it's a little frustrating the only consistency is his inconsistency, I guess we will all end up there someday, except you and me of course. The truck is running flawlessly I have driven it for the last thousand kilometers actually more than the thousand kilometers with nothing a great ride, it gets stronger all the time, if I had the money right now there is no way anyone would be able buy this truck, I like it that much. If you have any questions please let me know, I also have a line on some new mud terrain tires that I will also update sometime today. Whoever ends up with this truck is going to be one happy Pinz owner. One thing, I copied and pasted the specifications for the 710 M from Willie, inadvertently I lifted the part saying Arkansas title, this truck comes with a Idaho title which we have in hand right now, the old guy dropped it off last night. I guess I need to be more careful when I plagiarize. Should've taken a page out of Biden's book if anyone remembers that speech he gave that he stole from some guy in British Parliament that killed his presidential ambitions a long time ago.
