Vehicle Detail
Offered here - without reserve we have a rare hearse, the likes of which was featured in the 1980 Film 'The Hearse" It is a 1951 Packard and it has a NEW clear Arizona title and runs and drives. This Hearse has a menacing grill, perhaps the most menacing I have ever seen on a car, much less a hearse. This hearse is amazingly solid for its age (see pics). It is a Straight 8 engine with a manual transmission that starts right up and runs and drives. The car was converted over to 12 volt and it leaks nothing as far as I know or have ever detected. The engine just purrs...and starts right up even in colder weather. I think it was something about these inline 8 cylinder motors...these things are like Slant 6's in their reliability. It has a neat little skull shifter that has blinks red LED eyes when you shift gears. The floors have since been patched and POR 15'd and the rear cargo area is solid. I found replacement doors and a replacement authentic Hearse seat that replaced the rusted and unoriginal stuff that came with this hearse when I first found it. The car needs the rear parts of the rocker patch panels grafted on (included -see pics) but Ebay has the rear fender sheetmetal patches for 51s and 52s and 53s. Also, the rear window is broken but you can use cut scratchless clear plexiglass until you find another. I also bought another dash gauge set for the dash because one of the guages is missing) and I also bought an original radio that will come along with this hearse. As mentioned, it needs some fender rust repair in the rear fenders and has surface rust in other places. The floors are solid and you can just put your own carpet on it (if desired) or just cruise it as is. The hearse does not need to pass emissions because it is an antique vehicle and most DMVs don't require smog tests after a certain year. For those of you who will inevitably ask if this car could survive a 20hr road trip to your home... I really would not even think about chancing it. A couple hrs tops...but nothing more than that. Your best bet is really to find a shipper, and right now, I just got a car delivered in an enclosed trailer over 2000 miles for less than 1000...you will do better with an open carrier, for sure. Uship.com has some great shipping deals now if you list a target price vs. accepting all shipping bids. Either way, this car can be cruised while you steadily improve it, but most important...just get it on the streets already and show it off and enjoy it! This car has waited 60+ years for that to happen... I can hold onto this until you get your shipper as long as it is paid for. Please email me if you have more questions. Thanks and Good luck Bidding!
