1956 Chevrolet Apache 3800 dump bed stakeside pickup SPECS: 235 inline six gas engine 4 speed manual (floor shift) with granny first gear 2 wheel drive PTO / hydraulic dump bed WORKS GREAT!! 8800# GVWR Thank you for visiting Maryland’s NUMBER ONE R.V. DEALER BECKLEY’S RV’S HAS BEEN NAMED #1 IN MARYLAND FOR THE 12TH YEAR IN A ROW, ACCORDING TO STATISTICAL SURVEYS, INC. DETAILS: This is one neat old truck that we just took on trade towards an RV. It isn’t “restored”; it isn’t a “hot rod”; it’s just a neat, driver-level, clean, solid, functional truck. If you’re looking for a museum piece / showcar / hot rod…check out Barrett-Jackson’s auctions. But, if you’re looking for a cool old truck you can hop in, drive to the store, load up with materials, and actually USE? Here’s your truck. This would be awesome for a small mom-n-pop nursery to use as a rolling billboard / work truck. Or a hardware store. Even an old bed-and-breakfast. We’re “in the country” here in Thurmont; there are tons of cool jobs for something like this around here! This truck – being as honest as possible here – is a great “five-footer”. Closer in, you can see it was a home-restoration. The customer we got it from was honest – he painted it himself (with what appears to be an original, “Ocean Green” color). Did the bodywork himself (you can see some welds in the drivers step well). Undercoated it himself. Did the mechanicals himself. This is not a Chip Foose special – it’s a nicely done, skilled amateur, rock-solid, driver-quality setup. And, it does run and drive and stop and turn. The drivetrain is period-correct for the truck and it runs nicely. The engine doesn’t smoke or knock or tap, although it’s been sitting for a bit so I’d clean/tune the carburetor if it was mine. The transmission shifts nicely, the clutch feels good, the rear doesn’t make any whining noises, and it gets down the road really well for a fifty-six-year-old, one-ton pickup truck. More importantly? It stops when you tell it to. The brakes appear to be original, non-power drums, but they work surprisingly well. And, the PTO dump bed works like a champ! Now, for the nitpicky details: the chrome front end is not original for an Apache, it was only on the Cameo Carrier from the factory. This truck should have ivory bumpers, grille, and headlight bezels – but the chrome on these looks great. I’d leave it, if it were mine – it just looks that good. You can see the holes in the fenders – the trim for them is in a box, needing to be re-chromed (see pictures) so its on the same level as the front end pieces. All four pieces are pitted, but I didn’t see any damage or bends – a good chrome shop should have no problem restoring these for the new owner. There is also some extra weatherstripping, a couple of cables (choke? PTO?), and a passenger sunvisor as well as a piece of extra door glass (in the bubble wrap). The speedometer doesn’t work, and it is titled as TMU (Total Mileage Unknown). The odometer shows something like 74,000 but it’s anyone’s guess how far off that is. The oil gauge, fuel gauge, and temp gauges appear to be working – or, at least, they move when you start the engine. Oil pressure shows very good, actually. The radio is a modern-electronics-radio, behind a “vintage” faceplate. The seats look like they’re out of a late-model Dodge Ram, and while they have buttons for seat-heat…they are not hooked to any electrical (and are manual-adjust). And, I can’t find any way to tell if this was originally a pickup; stake-side; or chassis-cab. I also don’t know if it’s an original dump, or an accessory, a period-correct aftermarket piece, or a farmer’s barnyard add-on because he needed his truck to dump. I do know – like I said – that it works great, nice and smooth, and…it looks like it belongs there. The cool part? Like I said – it runs great, and appears to be original as far as drivetrain, suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, and steering. It’s just…FUN. People love seeing it on the road. It’s solid – the floors all felt great and I actually didn’t see ANY rust on the truck. I could see evidence of where some had been re-finished…but nothing soft at all, and nothing flaking anywhere. It has 12v electrics, so if you need a jump start you can use any modern car or battery (but this one starts just fine as it is…just remember it’s a foot-pedal-starter!). I invite my bidders to come and see it in person, if you like. Just – please – work with me to schedule a showing. We aren’t keeping it on-site, because of the rarity and nice overall quality, and the fact that we’re constantly moving RV’s around the lot and don’t want to damage anything. I’m more than happy to have it here ready for a viewing…if I know you’re coming ahead of time. Let me know if you have any questions, but in the meantime take a good look at the photos. Just imagine your company’s logo, stenciled on the doors or the sides of the dump bed – think about what an image like that could do for your business. Wouldn’t that be cool? Or…just clean it up and keep it in the garage, for nice-day runs to the hardware store. I have no doubt it could handle either one with ease. And this brings us to the important part of our auction – placing your bid. Click HERE to visit the FAQ page in my eBay store, so there isn’t any confusion or misunderstanding about our pricing / bidding / buying / payment policies. A sample of what’s on the FAQ page: - No, I don’t ship. You, or your shipper, need to pick up the item at our location (there is a shipping link, and a mapquest link, in the blue box below) - Yes, we finance – the link to a credit application is in the blue box below, if this unit qualifies for financing. - Yes, I issue temp tags to non-Maryland buyers, they cost $20 and are good for 60 days. - No, we don’t reveal our reserves; it’s just a policy we have (and it takes all the fun out of an auction anyway!) - Yes, we’re a full-service dealership. If you need hitchwork, send me your vehicle information and I can get you a price quote. - Yes, we must schedule your pickup. We’re a busy location, and I’m a one-man-show in eBay sales. Please, note my business hours below. - …and much, much more! Just click HERE to see it all! Ask any questions you might have, if they aren’t answered on that page. And, bid with confidence! If you like this one…place your bid, before someone else gets it! If one of my items ended early…you already missed out, because someone else bought it! (all our items are also for sale on our lot, so you’re not only competing with other bidders…you’re competing with walk-in buyers and 14 other salespeople. If you like it…BID ON IT so you don’t miss out!!) All my eBay units have a much lower price than full retail, because I pre-negotiate with my boss before I write the listing to get every discount dollar I can for my bidders. Typically our eBay units are sold as-is (unless I note otherwise in the auction), SO WE CAN SAVE YOU MONEY. The longer we have them here, the more work we’re going to do to them… we’ll end up with more time and money invested in them (my shop bills $120/hour)…and the prices will go up QUICKLY. So if you want to save some money (don’t we all?)…take advantage of the prices now, before we start putting money and time into the units and making them more expensive. If you have any other questions, check out the FAQ’s page in our eBay store. And if your question isn’t answered there, send me an email and I can get you the answer you need. EMAIL IS ALWAYS THE BEST WAY TO REACH ME, but if you’re the “phone type” you can call 800-296-6959. If I’m not at my desk, leave me a DETAILED voicemail (don’t say “I have a question, call me back”…ASK the question, so I can call back with an answer!), and I will call you back as soon as I can. Please note my department hours of Monday – Friday, 9am – 6pm (Eastern time) . SHIPPING: I DO NOT HAVE A SHIPPING DEPARTMENT. I DO NOT SHIP.
