Vehicle Detail
Thank you for your interest in my1964 Corvair Monza4 spd Conv. This is a relist due to zero feedback non communicating winning bidder on previous auction listed by my mechanic – In the description I’m combining my ownership experience in the first section with my mechanic’s summary of the car’s condition in the second section – there’s some redundancy - feel free to call either one of us as we’ve both driven and worked on the car: Ownership Experience (Written by Me)This is the first Corvair I’ve owned and the experience has been enlightening. I better understand why there an ascendancy in interest in these cars – I’ve beencollection cars for about 13 years – mostly European as I’ve not enjoyed thedriving experience of most American muscle cars – they tend to be sort ofstraight line BHP creatures that don’t stop and turn very well – and morespecifically with the Corvair I’ve not found them to be good looking – so I wassurprised when I spotted this one locally and got a chance to check it out upclose – like so many cars, changing the wheels visually transformed it’s appearance froma frumpy old lady car to a wide flat aggressive stance – it’s similar to thechange you see in an early Mustang when you swap out stock hub caps and steel wheelswith Magnum 500s or Torque Thrusts … all of a sudden the tail light treatments, the bright work, the fender top lines and all the cool stuff on the car becomemore apparent --- The driving experience was surprising too – I’ll probably getbashed by the Porschephiles but the 64 Corvair shares similar handling characteristicswith the SWB 911s of that era – I guess this shouldn’t be surprising given theengine over rear axle designs – I think the addition of the transverse leafspring along the rear axle really improved handling for the Corvair in 64 andbeyond cars – anyway the steering is light and nimble – the shifting is longthrow but reasonably precise – the clutch is medium to light and engages halfway up and the drum brakes work really well once I adjusted them – it pullswell in all gears with good torque – it’s not fast but it’s enough to enjoy aspirited driving experience on back roads and it cruises well on the highway in4th gear – all in all you’d be hard pressed to find a betterAmerican 4 seat 4 spd convertible for under $10k than the 1964 Corvair in myopinion -- and my specific one is in truly fabulous condition. Condition (Written by my Mechanic)This example of the iconic Corvair has been privyto a recent superb "driver quality" complete restoration. Everythingon this car works as it should with no known problems. The engine anddrivetrain have no known problems and have been trouble free for the currentowner. The engine is correct with the correct dual Rochester carbs. The onlymodification in the bay is an the alternator. The transmission shifts smoothand the clutch is excellent with recent free play adjustment. The brakes areexcellent including the emergency brake. The suspension and steering are tight, shimmy free, wobble free, and tracks straight on the road. The car seems tohave been rust free when restored as no evidence of repair can be found. I havebeen over the car with a magnet and aside from a ding in the lower frontvalence that was repaired by the current owner no other evidence of body workwas found. The body and paint are beautiful with no orange peel, runs, majorscratches or chips. All the body panels have excellent gaps and are straight asan arrow. The chrome and trim are excellent. The top and and interior are inexcellent condition with no rips or tears. The carpet is clean, dry, and is notfaded. Door panels are straight and flat. All the rubber is in good shape. Theblack top has a clean clear rear window and has no rips or leaks. This car isan absolute pleasure to drive. The 64 has the transversed rear leaf springeliminating the handling issues of the earlier cars while still sporting theearly and much more desirable body style. This thing does everything withease.....easy shifting....easy steering....easy drop top.....easy partsavailability...... ...Please have your finances in order, ask questions and talk to your spouse before bidding - reserve is modest relative to the car's condition and it's way less than I paid for it - I'm only selling due to my limited garage space coupled with ongoing car addiction that compels me to keep finding and buying other cool cars ... feel free to call to discuss ... I'm a collector and I like to make selling my stuff fun, easy and a good value for buyers ... check out the specific comments on the feedback I've received ...
