Vehicle Detail

This is a very interesting car.    Acquired from a gentlemen moving to France, who for all intents and purposes did not really understand what he had from a technical standpoint.    When presented to us, I test drove it, noting to be uncannily  quick and agile, uncharacteristic and unlike a conventional BMW 2002 would behave.    Inquiring to why, he was uncertain, however would check his notes, and speak to the gentlemen to whom he purchased it from in California.  As it turns out, the BMW is powered by a Metric Mechanic 2200 HT high performance engine, which was installed by the former owner.  The owner presenting it to us drove it very little, stored it for a number of years and the engine has perhaps no more than 5000 miles on it, or less. We do know its cylinder head has been flow ported and specially scribed in the combustion chamber, its has been bored to 2.2 liters, sports high compression 9.75:1 pistons and a high performance cam and larger Weber carburator to name but a few upgrades.   Its very quick and idles like it has a race spec'd camshaft.  Specifications can be found on the metricmechanic web site. Handling is superb, provided by a Bavarian Autosports suspension kit, consisting of coil springs (all), beefed up sway bar and bushings and performance shocks/struts.  Braided stainless steel brake lines have been added.  It handles like its on rails.  Literally!! Condition is as follows.  This is NOT a rust bucket.  There has been some random refinish paint work, and some minor surface rust is showing at the left rear lower window edge and around the sunroof edge.  The previous owner primed two very small chips on the hood, rather than have them repaired and blended.  This is a single stage paint finish, and blending can be easily done.  We see absolutely no previous rust repair anywhere that we can ascertain. Floors and rockers are solid.  The seats, as you can see have been upgraded to a more Recaro style and are in excellent condition.  Moreover, the wheels are now 14" alloy with excellent tires, probably from a later E36  model.  The rims are in excellent condition with no abrasions or finish peeling.  Its interior is very nice.  Some spliting on the dash, very nice rugs and door panels, a nice headliner, with a minor repair on the sunroof portion of the headliner.  This is a really fun car to drive and own.  It represents the last year of the 2002 series and is well sorted and vetted.  The 2002 runs and drives fabulously with no unusual noises, smoke or leaks.  This is a very nice car.  The listed mileage is probably the result of the speedometer having turned once over, however it appears most all the mechanicals have been redone as above stated.   We have set the reserve very reasonably in consideration of other 2002 BMW are selling here on Ebay.   Have fun bidding, enjoy the pictures, and thank you for the interest. On Oct-01-12 at 08:09:31 PDT, seller added the following information: There have been many inquiries regarding our reserve?? Hmmm. Again, as previously stated, this car will sell, given the fact our reserve is fairly set for what the car represents. The previous owner spent well over $10K in upgrades. Our reserve is well below this as a point of reference, if this helps quell some the curiosity. Best regards.and best of luck bidding. Thanks. . Chris.
