Vehicle Detail
Porsche 912 targa one of the world's best survivors. You will be flabbergasted at the true rust free nature of this original California car. Never wrecked, it has lived its entire existence in the sunny, dry, beautiful California weather, so has never seen the horror of the north and east. As you know the factory only made 750 of these beautiful 1969 Targa models and this additionally was the last year for the 912 (1976 912e does not count!), and the only year of the longer wheelbase 912, so that, coupled with the lighter and shorter (than the six cylinder) four cylinder engine, handled much better than its six cylinder brother. Also, the 69-73 911 and 912 models as everyone knows, are the most highly sought after of all of the 901 series production cars. This 912 was freshened a bit by our shop with a comprehensive servicing and tuneup, (compression is even and well over 100 on all cylinders ) new tires, a brake overhaul and interior cosmetics. Carpets, seats, and rear trim are all brand new from the famous Autos International, with a factory restored Blaupunkt am fm radio courtesy of Matthias in Germany, the factory authorized Blaupunkt rebuilder, along with a brand new Porsche factory radio speaker. As you can see by the many pictures there are a few details that we left for the new buyer, for example although we have recently replaced the rubber switch knob covers since these photos with factory new, if you are picky, you will want to order new door boxes from us. The car at one time was color changed but then changed back to the original 6808-g burgundy red, and although not the best of jobs, it still shines and is perfectly acceptable for a driver quality car, but would have to be stripped to bare metal and refinished for concours perfection. This 912 comes complete with its original mostly complete tool kit as well as the original owners manual, stamped service booklet, special targa owners manual supplement and a full compliment of original service receipts. (this mostly complete owners manual packet by itself is a real find!!!!) Additionally Porsche makes it easy to get a certificate of authenticity to complete the extras one would desire for the car. I cannot describe to you how delightfully this car drives. With the longer wheelbase, the light four cylinder 912 engine and the five speed transaxle, this is among the best driving Porsches ever make. Light steering, light shifting, light braking, and the light, extremely well balanced body make driving this 912 an absolute pleasure few will ever experience. 1969 is THE year of the 912 to own and this one is a very worthy addition to your collection. I would CERTAINLY keep it if I did not already have way too many Porsches and no place to keep them under shelter!!! Please do not hesitate to call if you would like to discuss the purchase of this great car. Picks? The alternator brushes clatter a bit, the paint has flaws here and there, the front bumper and rear license plate panel are a darker burgundy red, the original dash has two small cracks and some pock marks over to the right, the snap out door boxes are not as nice as they could be, the clock does not work and the speedo center button has fallen off (the instrument set could be easily freshened by Palo Alto speedometer) but that is really it! Tires are new, wheels are new aftermarket ones (except for the spare!) I have installed new Lloyd plush embroidered mats to protect the carpets, and the three engine insulator pads are new making this car as quiet as it should be. You will be absolutely delighted with your purchase. If you choose to do so you could fly in and drive this car home, we at Automobile Atlanta have attended to all of the mechanical details.
