0 0 1 1103 6289 Baruch College 52 14 7378 14.0 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Let me start by saying that I am not a dealer (I am not mechanically inclined either) and I have personally owned -and enjoyed- this car for about 8 years. I am a college professor and European vintage cars of the period between 60 and 70 have been the ones I like the most. So I have had a few Porsches and Lotuses and this only Alfa that I have being enjoying for the last decade or so. Unfortunately changes in my life force me to sell some of my cars at this juncture. I have been the only driver of this car while it has been under my care. As you can verify from the photos posted the VIN of the car is AR*379709* (stamped in the usual place in the chassis in the engine bay) and is consistent with the official NY registration that lists the VIN as AR379709 as well (I think * cannot be included in the VIN of the car in NY- only letters and numbers). The engine number is *AR00112*15173*. I trust that this is consistent with the above VIN and the car seems to be a matching numbers car. All the information I collected before purchasing it points out in this direction. The VIN and engine numbers are consistent with the “Guide to Identification of Alfa Romeo cars” by Maurizio Tabucchi published in 2000 that I know to be pretty reliable. It is a very original. I purchased it in 2004 from a pilot who had it for 30 years or so. He said that he purchased it from the original owner and the engine was original to the car. I had been looking for a Giulia Spider for quite some time and had driven quite a few of them (some gorgeous garage queens) and when I first went to see this I was a bit disappointed as it looked a bit beaten up. But, I was in for a serious surprise when the fellow encouraged me to drive it. It was indeed driving much better than any of the other Giulias I had recently driven. Nibble, peppy, responsive and fun. So I decided to buy it and embark on a minor restoration - basically repaint, carpet, seats and top. The car had no serious rust although some repairs were required in the sills that were professionally done. Following the restoration I took delivery but then sent it back to redo the carpets as I had a change of heart and decided to go back to the original black carpet as opposed to the red I had chosen earlier. The previous owner confirmed that he bought it from the first owner and that the engine and transmission are original to the car. The odometer shows 74,780 and I believe this to be the correct mileage of the car from new. It has the original 1.6 liter engine, the original 5-speed manual transmission and the original and very cool front disc brakes. This car was cherished by the previous owner not as a garage queen but as a fun driver and as far as I know neither he nor the original owner ever raced the car. That is exactly how I used the car myself as well. So the minor restoration of the car was done with a driver car in mind and the car has been driven with signs of good use as the photos attest. Driver quality it might be, but it did not have any accidents as far as I know. It is an unmodified car down to the interior including the radio, the antenna the original carello lights (see detail of the front left light photo) etc. The underside of the car is all fine with no rust and I have managed to take a photo (in the confined space of my current garage) that I have also posted. The floors seem to me original. The engine has always worked perfectly under my watch. All the glass is good. There are good tires on the car that I put on some 5-6 years ago but one seems to be losing air now. The spare is in the car, the tire on it is much older but still holds air. Regular oil changes and tune-ups were done up to 3 years ago when the long storage period started. All the electrics were in working order to my knowledge. Overall it has been a great car and I have tried to describe it the best way I can. Please view the many photos that I have posted. Particularly notice that the wheel-wells and underside are quite clean, straight & rust free. Why am I selling it? I became a father 2.5 years ago and my life has changed in many ways. First of all I have no time available now (between spending time with my daughter and my additional work related time obligations) for drives with all my classic cars and furthermore I have much less garage space following our move to a new house. As a result, while I have always kept the car garaged, I have not managed to drive it - not even once - during the last 2.5-3 years. Off course I have not attempted to start it after such a long period of idleness as I think that the fuel line & possibly the tank must be cleaned first. A few minor issues with the car: 1. I have lost the little chrome trim piece for the (decoration air scoop) hood (see photos, it is there in the earlier ones but not in the recent close up), 2. The radio does not work. I did not try to have it fixed although I have inquired and it appears to be an inexpensive affair, 3. I noticed now a few bubbles in the lower part of the drivers door (maybe they were there from the beginning after the paint job…) although the color is still shiny and nice there and around and the door metal appears extremely solid everywhere I checked, 4. The radio antenna appears to be stuck and 5. The rubber around the trunk needs to be changed at some point although as I said the car has always been garaged and never driven in rain. I really hate to let the car go but given my circumstances I cannot drive this car as I used to and as I believe it should be driven and enjoyed. There is a very reasonable and modest reserve for this car but please do not ask me to reveal it as I intend to let this auction run its full course. There is also a $2000 deposit that is required at the end of auction. I do have a clear and transferrable NY registration to my name for the car which will be used for its sale (please note that NY does not issue Titles for cars of this vintage- I have sold another car with signing in back the NY registration to the buyer and I know this works fine for the new owner to register the car to their names and issue new title wherever they are). The registration lists the car as a 1966 but again I know it was not rare back then for a 1964 car to be put in first use later (to be sold with a year or two delay) and thus be listed as a later date car on the registration/title. Overall this is a good car in a wonderful color combination (red/black is an admittedly very pretty and probably the most classic combination for this particular Pinifarina-designed car as people say) that gets all the time compliments (even when I have simply transporting it by flat-bed from storage to storage recently and while it is quite dusty). It has also been a very fun car to drive around with its nimbleness and peppiness and all the attention it gets everywhere from almost everyone. Thank you for your interest in my car and feel free to contact me with any questions. I will try to answer them the best way I can as I believe in full disclosure. Please only bid if you intend to buy the car and feel free to ask me any questions you might have before bidding. The usual disclaimer for sale of a used car of this vintage applies here as well: This is naturally a used car and there are no explicit or implicit warranties of any kind that accompany its sale.
