Vehicle Detail

First let me just say that Im not in a hurry to sell the car but am trying to judge interest in her (my wife named her “rosemary” lol). It is currently a running driving car that starts/stops/drives but needs the new top I have for it installed as far as I know thats all it needs to be a daily driver. Its a really cool old 1600cc bug as is but could be turned into a Cal-style really easy which I had actually thought about and keeping it for me but Im more of a muscle car guy. Would consider trades for 50's, 60's and some 70's ford or chevy muscle cars (mustang, camaro, 55-57 chevy, old pickups etc maybe projects just depends on how far along they are). NO CRAZY HIGH RESERVE EITHER, Im not one of these people who thinks that if you spend 100k on a pinto that that’s what its worth cause its not and I would be stupid to think it is. But it is or will be a super car for VW fans or a girls first car. I got this car to restore for my wife 8 months ago and it was 100% complete and only had the usual rust in the battery tray area and the drivers floor board which I have since repaired. The car now has ZERO RUST that Im aware of anywhere. I WILL INCLUDE A "BUILD BOOK" of with over 200 pictures showing the various stages of restoration on a flash drive for you to keep for your records. I HAVE RECEIPTS FOR “ALL” THE NEW PARTS: Top, Engine, Interior, Paint, Tires, running boards, real german rubber fender trim, Misc stuff, Chrome etc. I haven’t added them up but all total about $5000 I guess in parts alone. They fill up a manilla envelope completely. Im not trying to fool or mislead anyone here and am not saying that this is a frame-off 100% correct show winning car but it is restored and has been built to “drive” not to be a trailer queen. As my wife really wanted it until she bought a new VW and now doesn’t want to go without all the luxury stuff new cars have…go figure after I have spent countless hours restoring it. IF YOU NEED MORE SPECIFIC PICTURES OF SOMETHING JUST ASK AND ILL ADD THEM HERE OR SEND THEM.I will also add a videos of it running. PLEASE ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS YOU WANT OR GIVE ME YOUR PHONE NUMBER AND I CAN CALL YOU TO ANSWER ANYTHING TO LONG TO ANSWER BY EMAIL. ALSO PLEASE ONLY BID IF YOUR SERIOUS AND CAN PAY FOR IT, I ask for a $500 deposit by paypal at the end of the auction and the rest within 4-5 days. I can keep the car stored inside my warehouse for you while you setup a time to ship it (any longer than 10-15 days though we will have to discuss over the phone 1st before you bid) and will help your guy load the car and in any way I can. Paint: Repainted with PPG Dodge Viper Red/Ford Performance White paint- paint job is pretty good but does have some imperfections and was never color-sanded & Buffed because the shop went out of business. It looks amazing from 3-5 feet away is the easiest way to explain it. It has 4 coats of high build PPG primer, 1 coat PPG sealer, 3 coats PPG base color, and 4 coats PPG clear coat. Not show quality, has some flaws but very good for a daily driver/weekend cruiser and local car meets. The underside of every fender and fenderwell has been sprayed with undercoatingas well as the inside of the floorpan to prevent rust/damage. Body: Is straight and has had the front turn signals shaved off of the fenders (if you wanted to add turn signals back to it, they make a cool factory european bumper that has turn signal holes in itand all the factory wiring is still there) and the rear bumper and the holes for it on the rear fenders are shaved off as well. And new running boards, outside door handles, chrome trim, real "german" rubber fender/headlight/tail light/door lock trim. All new handles for the: door handles (with new keys), front trunk has new handle(lock delete style because Ive heard terrible stories about the locking kind malfunctioning and the only way to open the trunk then is to destroy the trunk lid) , decklid handle Engine: is the original that I got with it and was taken to a local VW engine who completely rebuilt it (even though it ran fine when I got it, I just didn’t want my wife getting stranded). The builders name and contact info will be given to the auction winner as he gives a “12 warranty” on his work to not be flawed, it has only had the engine in it for a month so you will still have about 10-11months left on his warranty, I have the receipt. New fuel lines and 2 new fuel filters installed just to be safe. It is the original size 1600cc Dual port, single carb engine with a earlier model carb installed and a new aircleaner (although I will include the original air box if you want and its in good shape). Has various chrome acces’s on it and a alternator not generator, see thru dist cap (looks cool at nightbut have been told they fail alot so I will also include a new "regular" style cap with it), the engine has only been run about 2 hours total as of now so its still new and will need an oil change after about 500 miles for proper break-in. So far I have put a temporary tag on it so I could drive it around a little to work out any little bugs on it and have probably made about 3-4 drives (about 20-30 minutes each, roughly 20-30 miles all together) havent really had anything come up other than I had to adjust the idle (Im not a VW mechanic so Im sure a "real" VW guy could set the timing and idle better than me but it sounds good now). New battery with 2 year warranty. Transmission: Shifts fine and is not hard to get into reverse like I have heard of other people having trouble with. Interior; Is all new with new, Carpet, Seat Upholstery, Door panels, sun visors, Dash Cover (they don’t make dashs anymore for these so I bought the cap as under it the dash is cracked in about 2-3 places but the hard cover completely covers that), new window hardware (regulator repair kit, cranks etc), rubber in good shape, Custom made center console, Shifter rod was polished, Chrome windows cranks/door handles. Entire interior was taken out and painted behind or at least undercoated for sound deadening with professional grade rubberized undercoating. The instruments are wired up and the VDO speedometer works (doesnt bounce), the light for the speedo works, the wipers work. The headlights, stoplights, hazard lights and the gas guage are all hooked up and working, all the wiring is original and in very good shape. I did install a new new ignition switch and key lock cylinder though (with new keys but will include the originals) just because if it went out later it would be alot harder to get to and change than it was when I already had everything apart. Glass; All glass is there and installed except the rear window which I have but the Top needs to be installed first before it can be put in. The one vent window on the passenger side is cracked but any glass shop can cut you a new one from this old one for about $20 and its easy to install. All the windows roll up and down like they are supposed to. Tires: All four tires are brand new and the original size 265R15 (which are hard to find), They have “portawall” white walls installed on them that are also new (the tire shop could have done a better job putting them on so they are flatter but when you get them rotated, Id just ask them to adjust them then), the trim rings and hub caps are the originals and have some wear but still look great, I also have a spare wheel/tire hubcap that is in the trunk but the tire is old and is still the original size tho. Top: Have a brand new top/headliner/padding kit from TMI in white (both exterior and headliner are white), along with all new hardware (wires, cables etc), have the original back window frame, new wood window frame insert, back window/rubber seal. The frame is also in excellent condition and moves freely. And a new wood bow (Super beeetles only have the one wood bow) and it is the good laminated kind not that pressboard one that seems to not last long. All this just needs to be installed as the new parts are still in the boxes and the top frame and window are off the car but I will but the frame back on for transit to you so nothing gets lost/damaged. I have receipts for all these parts as well. I have found a guy here in Phoenix that will install the top for $500 since I have all the parts and might include having this done for the next owner if the car sells for a decent price. Suspension: Is still tight so I did not replace really anything on it as I believe it was recently rebuilt before I got the car. No shakes or wobbles at any speed Ive been up in it (55MPH so far). Where its at now is just finishing the small stuff like getting the convertible top installed , fixing whatever little bugs come up after a big restoration and really that’s it that I know of nothing that costs a ton of money or time . As I said earlier, I have driven it and got it up to 55mph and so far no problems, no front suspension/steering shake that I was warned to look out for or anything like that. HAVE 2 BIG BOXES OF SPARE PARTS that I will include if you want them, some of these parts are a EMPI dual exhaust, spare spring loaded pushrod tubes 2 different kinds (for quick repairs only tho as I was told not to use them permanatly so I had stock ones put on the motor during rebuild), misc interior parts (extra door handles, window cranks etc), 4 extra hubcaps, original tail lights and housings, all the heater hose plumbing if you want to hook it up, extra german fuel hose, that kind of thing. The new top and all the top parts are in one of the pictures.Heres a link to a small sample of some of the build pictures: http://s412.photobucket.com/albums/pp210/hsixpac/74%20vw/ Also I have a free & clear Arizona title that shows 46,000 miles and is NOT salvage or branded in any way there is no warranty from me on the car (its 38 years old nothing comes with a warranty that long lol), although the engine builder said he would warranty the engine for 12 months but thats going to be between the buyer and him if a problem should arise. The car is being sold "As-is, Where-is". I have tried my best to describe everything I know about the car and will answer all questions though just to help clearify. Thanks again for looking and goodluck On Sep-25-12 at 23:03:24 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: I had a question from someone if the "only" does 55mph and I understand that I might have been confusing on that so to clear it up, NO it does not only go to 55mph thats just the fastest that I have driven it since I havent been on the freeway with it yet. The road I test drive drive it on has a speedlimit of 45 and I didnt want to get a ticket for going any faster than 55 so I let off it. Also Im in the process of installing the convertible top and think it will go well as I have done alot of research on it and now feel comfortable with the install. So far I have the convertible frame sprayed with black anti rust paint and installed, new cables/springs installed and am starting on the headliner. I will however probably not install the back window as the tops for these do not come pre-cut out for it so you have to actually cut a hole in your brand new top after its installed and I dont feel that comfortable with it lol. But my research shows me that most upholstery shops only charge around $50-100 to do it for you and I have all the pieces required for it. I will update the pics once I have it installed, at the very least Id like to have the headliner installed so that no dirt gets in the car during transport to you. Please feel free to ask any questions you like and thanks again for looking. On Sep-27-12 at 20:43:30 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: Just got done installing the headliner today, will work on getting the "top padding kit" and convertible outer skin cover on tommorrow. If I get it done, ill add a pic of it all done on here. Also just got asked if the windows work and I realize that maybe I wrote the ad kinda confusing so to answer "YES" all the windows work, I replaced the all the window regulator hardware ( little plastic pieces that make the window go up and down when you crank them). On Sep-28-12 at 16:37:21 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: Ok this "should be" the last update before the end of the auction. I have now installed the headliner, convertible padding/cover, and I installed the outside convertible top canvas as well but I unhooked it at the front as it was really tight. But the steel cable is on in the back holding the top on and it should only take a upholstery shop a few minutes to finish the install. They will also have to cut the hole in the top for the back window for you as well since Im not that brave lol. But everything else on the top should be good. I ADDED A NEW PHOTO WITH THE TOP ON. I did this so that when you have the car transported to you, the interior will be safe from the elements. I will leave it like this BUT I will close and lock the top down and cover the entire top in plastic and fasten it to the car so that theres no chance of any chemicals or rain ruining anything. That way when you get the car, you can just remove the plastic, put the top down and take it to whatever upholstery shop you want to have them install the window and outer top skin. Again I would have done it but I just couldnt seem to get it on straight without any wrinkles anywhere so I figure its now best left to the pros. ALSO THE BIDDING HAS ALMOST REACHED THE RESERVE PRICE so please bid responsibly and only if you are planning on buying it if you win at the price that you bid PLEASE cause if the car crosses the reserve price ebay will charge me for this ad no matter what even if the buyer doesnt pay I found out, which sucks so please help me out and again bid responsibly. Thank you and good luck
