Vehicle Detail

Here for your bidding pleasure is a 99% complete (only missing parts are the chrome trim to the hood- easy to find/replicate) 1960 model year BUICK ELECTRA 225. This is a Model 4829. I have owned this car since 1995 with intentions of restoring it. I lost indoor storage a couple years ago in 2010, and the car has been outside with a cover on it since then. IMPORTANT NOTE: everything that you see that is not on the car with the exception of the hood chrome trim is bagged and tagged inside the car. The car is ONLY MISSING THE HOOD CHROME TRIM. The engine RUNS the car shifts and DRIVES- this is a legitimate restoration platform, not just a parts car. I am headed up to the area and plan on posting youtube movies of the car RUNNING and driving, if the tires will hold air, by this coming SATURDAY. The car has been started and run every few years, not using the gas tank but a remote tank. I have driven the car about a total of 100 miles over the years and noted the following: 1) the turbine transmission skips when warm but you can overcome that by moving the "L" gear from a dead stop. The car does NOT skip when in forward motion. 2) Reverse skips all the time but can be used as long as you're not backing up a steep hill. (Needs a transmission rebuild). The engine appears to be newer than the car but is a 401 Nailhead all the same- probably from a Riviera Gran Sport a few years newer. The car is an original CALIFORNIA car as noted by the Southern California AAA sticker on the rear bumper and the LA Hospital sticker on the mirror. When I first looked at this car in 1991, the ENTIRE maintenance history was with it in a 3 ring binder and the car had been in California through 1975 and then was only used in New Hampshire 3 years before the son of the original owner let the car sit over an unpaid muffler system job in 1978. That's a total of FOUR YEARS in the northeast- frame is ROCK SOLID and panels are also solid- what's wrong with the car is surface rust from sitting in the sun too long after the exhaust system job went unpaid. The car needs everything cosmetically as far as restoration goes but is NEARLY COMPLETE- the only missing trim is the straight pieces of chrome on the hood. ALL PARTS THAT YOU SEE REMOVED- front bumper, headlight bezels, were removed by me and are tagged and bagged inside the trunk. There is a pinhole in the trunk floor and one under the back bench seat, the back bench seat probably attributable to mouse urine- that's what i smelled when I lifted up the back seat. I have also removed the horrible original carpet and tarpaper that was under it. There is not floor pan rot- some light surface rust. The front seat is loose- I unbolted it. Other than that, I did nothing else to the car. The odometer reads in the 70,xxx's and I do not know if it flipped over or not. You are looking at a car that was seriously used for only 18 years (at the most!) of its life. When I looked at the car in 1991, the odometer read 65,xxx so the owner prior to me only put 5,000 miles on the car. The seat covers are shot but all of the electrical stuff works- seat and windows- the windows work slowly and some are slightly out of alignment. I can see bubbles in some of the (flat glass) side windows- might be some tint self destructing in there- some new glass is likely in order here. The headliner is trash. The wonderbar radio doesn't work but is all there. I do remember checking the transmisison and seeing that it was very over-filled years ago- not sure if that contributes to the skipping or not. NO RESERVE!!! The tires have gone flat on the car in the last year and I'm not sure if they will come up or not- it might be advisable to bring some of your own to pick the car up with. I would not advise trying to drive this car away, although it will surely run. I will be up in the area from this Thursday until the end of the auction. If you have any questions then the best way to contact me (limited internet at cottage) is by phone: TWO SEVEN ZERO-293-SEVEN EIGHT ONE ZERO. I will be attempting to air up the tires and start the car once I get into the area. I will take videos of the car running and post them to this description on Friday of this next week. The car is located in central western New Hampshire in zip 03257 and must be picked up within 30 days of auction end. Deposit is due within 48 hours and the balance due upon pick up. The car is to be sold with notarized New Hampshire bill of sale which is negotiable in any other state for a registration and/or title. Please ask all questions before bidding. Serious bidders only.
