Vehicle Detail
First, I would like to thank my daughter Kersten for allowing me to use her eBay account! Up for sale is an incredibly original and limited edition 1974 Volkswagen Sun Bug Super Beetle. This car is being sold to support my wife and I for the Drop Zone, www thedropzone ca - it's an event where you rappel down a very tall building to help raise money for Easter Seals to send very appreciate kids to go to summer camp. Our website is www awesomeavengers com - we need to raise a fair amount of money to do the event and we would like to break the record, and I've undertaken on this project to do so. It has been several months of hard work, and we feel it's worth it to give the kids a memory for a lifetime. The photos speak for themselves (eBay only allows 24 otherwise I would upload several more). Odometer says 14300 miles (not sure if that is original or not, CarFax only goes back to 1981). Car runs perfect, has been used as daily driver for last two months, gets lots of looks and complements. When going for gas I have to make sure I wasn't late for something as there's always somebody that comes over and starts talking about it. 4 speed manual, all gears shift perfect. Reverse also works great. Tires are brand new (have receipt), and rims are original Sport Rims for the Sun Bug. They were sandblasted professionally and painted the stock aluminum colour (can't recall the code but I do have it handy). One of the photos shows the beautiful VW logo on the rim - all the rims are in the same great shape. Sunroof does not leak, and opens and closes easily. No rips or tears on headliner. Door panels look like new, including the pockets. Everything works, including the stock radio. There are Craig speakers mounted in the back, which are probably from the day the car was bought. Everything is original, the engine has not been modified and the interior has not been cut apart or molested. No speaker holes cut out, no third party stereo, no aftermarket dash cover, no seat covers or steering wheel cover. Everything is ORIGINAL. The passenger and rear seats are in good shape, however could use re-stuffing. The driver's seat has a few tears in it and will need to be fixed. Because this is the stock interior, and it's a special brown for the Sun Bug, I did not want to simply replace the seats with some generic black or brown ones. I've had quotes of around $500 to $800 to re-stuff the seats and fix the drivers side, so please take this into consideration when bidding. The steering wheel also is worn on the top (it's been wrapped in electrical tape at the very top, see photos). I did not want to put a steering wheel cover on it and hide this... There is a small ding in the windshield. The pans are in fantastic condition... included a couple of photos as well. Under the battery it looks like somebody has tried to fix a small hole with fiberglass (it looks like it's been done right)... you have to look for it and I couldn't justify replacing the pan just for that, however if you did want to, the pan is about $120 plus $200 for labour so please also keep that in mind however I can't see it needing to be done. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with the car. I want to disclose everything and that's it. Car has been recently resprayed with the stock colour, Harvest Gold code L98C, and was base coat with clear coat (x3), and I have taken off the bumpers and a few other things to clean them, and I figured it'd be best to take photos while they are off so you can see the fantastic condition the car is in. No rust around the bumper inserts, or along the fender beading (which I am also replacing - it's not on the front fenders yet if you notice in the photos). The bumpers are in excellent condition and will be reinstalled shortly. A new European OEM muffler and chrome pipes, antenna, as well as European OEM running boards have been ordered and will be installed within a few days. Will also put the nose for the license plate cover on the deck lid. Same with new clips for the chrome (I have it all). I'll upload new photos the moment they are on the car. Feel free to ask me anything, I'm sure I missed a detail or two, trying to remember everything. My name is Don, and you can reach me direct on my cell (1 250 744 7136), or through eBay and I will answer any questions and take any additional photos that you like. Should a purchaser come forward locally with the full asking price (or very close to it), I have the right to remove the listing from eBay at any time. I will give the high bidder a chance to match the offer though, I feel that is the right thing to do. Payment is CASH only please. No PayPal as you can appreciate for an item of this value. However, if you absolutely MUST pay by PayPal, kindly allow two weeks after paying for it to clear the bank. Located in Victoria, BC, Canada. YES, I will drive this car anywhere in continental North America if you Buy it Now ($3500 international bank draft deposit due right away) however if you are in the US you will need to figure out how to do the paperwork to register it. I will certainly get it to you though. Remember, it's an original stock Sun Bug AND it's for the kids. Make a difference and get a beautiful car to boot. On 08-Sep-12 at 17:29:50 EDT, seller added the following information: I've taken some additional photos of the engine (completely stock, runs 100%!), engine code is: AH296682 And there are additional photos of the spare tire area (which I do have with rim, it's brand new matching the other tires/rim) at: http://www.artools.ca/ Any questions, please ask!! On 08-Sep-12 at 22:51:11 EDT, seller added the following information: Here are larger photos plus additional ones, just figured out how to do this! On 09-Sep-12 at 23:58:10 EDT, seller added the following information: I've had a few questions on how to determine the value of older VWs, and even if you're just looking at this one or a different one in the future, here is some interesting info: http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1974/Volkswagen/Beetle-Super/2-Door-Sedan/Values The above link has info the 1974 Super Beetle (not Sun Bug specific, but still a great resource). Directly from the guide is this info... To be conservative, I would rate the car between average retail and high retail at about $7,200-$10,000, but of course hoping for more into the high retail range (buy it now is just below $10,000) as the proceeds will be graciously donated to charity. Pricing Original MSRP Low Retail Average Retail High Retail TOTAL PRICE $2,849 $3,925 $7,200 $15,600 Value Explanations Prices shown are retail consumer values and to be considered as selling prices. Trade-in values are to be determined by local dealers and are generally lower than values shown. Low Retail Value This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning. The exterior paint, trim, and interior would show normal wear, needing only minor reconditioning. May also be a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. Most usable "as-is". Some of the vehicles in this publication could be considered "Daily Drivers" and are not valued as a classic vehicle. When determining a value for a daily driver, it is recommended that the subscriber use the low retail value. Note: This value does not represent a "parts car". Average Retail Value This vehicle would be in good condition overall. It could be an older restoration or a well-maintained original vehicle. Completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. A "20-footer". High Retail Value This vehicle would be in excellent condition overall. It could be a completely restored or an extremely well maintained original vehicle showing very minimal wear. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are not in need of reconditioning. The interior would be in excellent condition. Note: This value does not represent a "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle *. * "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle is not driven. It would generally be in a museum or transported in an enclosed trailer to concourse judging and car shows. This type of car would be stored in a climate-regulated facility.
