hughes35 Store This is a unique car in California I do not think you will find another one like it. It is a 1968 Ford Cortina mark 2 1600GT 4 door sedan. The Mark 2 GT was widely sold in 2 door guise but only special order in 4 door. It has been updated to look like a European 1600 with Euro lights and wheels and interior. I found this car in a British car repair shop in the California inland empire languishing after a wiring harness meltdown and couldnt resist it . The owner had taken it as a trade for an Alfa GTV and it came with bills for about $13,000. The car was used as an everyday driver and was maintained well. It wasnt very pretty but not you usual derelict English Ford . The basis of the car was great with about 23k on the engine and transmission. I got it running and driving but there were lots of problems. It needed to be rewired and the wiring fire had burnt out a lot of electical components . With the help of the internet I found a gentleman in Cornwall, England who had converted a 10,000 mile LHD 1600E 2 door to RHD. He had a mint wiring loom that I needed, he also had all new instruments and mint dash and a beautiful wood dashboard these parts werent cheap and I spent a small fortune for these parts plus new door panels and other unique parts including European spec lights and correct and unique 1600E five and a half inch Rostyle wheels. A trip to Beaulieu swapmeet sourced other needed parts but I have lost count of the money invested. I repainted the car in Old English white after extensive body preparation, all windows were removed and the car has all new rubbers . There was no rust but it had been knocked about a bit. The dash is new and perfect as is the wood the carpets are in good condition the seats are older and the rear seat will need attention at some time , the headliner is recent and very good. Mechanically the car drove pretty well but I have improved it with, petronix electronic ignition, electric fuel pump, uprated headlights,auxillary lights,Maserati airhorns, alternator conversion and rebuilding the Weber carburettor. It now drives very well. The tires are newish and the wheels are unique this side of the Atlantic. All the instruments and lights work, the fog and spot lights are original Wipac items. Overall the car is now pretty well sorted but is a work in progress the suspension could be improved, I already have some parts,and there are a few minor items need finishing but this car is a great everyday driver surprisingly nimble and economical. I have a Csalifornia pink in my name and the car is ready fo a new enthusiast owner. Only selling to fund a new Cortina Mark 1 project. The car is sold as is where is!
