Vehicle Detail

I'd really like to sell this car, and now it's marked down even more, and if you're interested, please make me an offer. I bought this car in 2007 when I had a good job that paid well. It was a "barn car." It needed lots of things done to it, but I had the time and the finances and I did everything I could do to get it back on the road. I lost my job in 2009, but by that time, most of the big work had already been done. Then I got the job back, worked for a few months, then lost it again. It's a rare 1967 Mercury Park Lane convertible with a 410 engine. Only 1,191 of this model were made. So if you buy this, you'll have a one-of-a-kind vehicle when you take it to the car shows and park it next to the row of identical mid-1950s Chevys. It's a great car and I've had a lot of fun with it. And now it's time to sell it. It's not that I don't like it. I do. It's a fine old automobile. And it's a convertible! But it has to go. After being unemployed for fifteen months, I finally got a new job. Ironically, now that I have a job, I don't have time to work on it or time to enjoy it. But we need a new roof on the house more than I need to keep putting gas in this old road hog. As stated above, it was a barn find. Here's the provenance. In 2002 the previous owner was doing some work at someone's house in Jeffersonville, IN (near Louisville, KY) and spotted the old car in the barn. He asked the family about it. It seems that twenty years before, around 1982, they bought that car for their son. I don't know how much he drove it, but he died sometime after he got it. So, the family parked the car in the barn. And it sat. Until 2002. In 2002 the previous owner bought it and drove it around a little and decided to "work" on it. This consisted of questionable engine work and new paint job he did himself inside his garage. The car was originally pale yellow. He repainted it sparkly metallic-flake black-cherry. It looks cool and sparkly in the sunlight. Only problem: he never finished it. It has orange peel all over. It needs a major wet sand to really smooth it out. As the years went by, the previous owner ran out of time and money to work on it and put it up for sale. I bought it. It didn't run. It needed a nearly complete restoration. In the upcoming months/years, I did the following: Had the engine rebuilt. Factory it had 330 HP. After the rebuild, with new pistons in bored-out cylinders, it has now close to 350 HP. Had the transmission rebuilt. It's a C4. Had a new vinyl convertible top professionally installed. I installed seatbelts. I pulled them from a 1970 Plymouth Valiant. New weatherstripping. New custom dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers. Rebuilt the water pump. New master cylinder, starter, battery, alternator, belts, windshield washer motor, shocks, tires, and brakes. Repaired the radiator. Installed a new transmission cooler. Replaced the points with Pertronix Ignitor II electronic ignition. This eliminated the pesky knocking and pinging. New ceramic Pertronix Blaster II coil. Repaired floorboards. All rusty spots have new sheet metal welded in. The floorboards include sound-dampening panels. New carpet. I rebuilt the Holley 4160 four-barrel carb. I repaired the dash clock so it works now! But it runs a little slow. Original carboard glove compartment has been replaced with a custom-made steel version. I added a set of gauges into the dash. The seats are all original. And there's probably more. I've done so much to this car. Ask questions if you need to. As it stands, it's mostly-restored. It still needs window-seal (which I have), rock-defector panels for the bumpers, and pretty much all new suspension. I replaced the idler arm and a couple of other things, but you can hear the squeaks and clunks as you drive down the road. It's not in perfect shape, and it gets about ten miles to the gallon. There's also some hesitation on acceleration that I have not been able to adjust out of the accelerator pump. I believe the hesitation might be related to the vacuum advance. However, it does accelerate really nice and runs well at highway speed. I've had it up to 90, but got nervous since I was on the interstate. The back bumper needs straightening. Sometime in its previous life, the back bumper got squished in in the middle. It includes a "Slim-Line" under-dash dealer-installed air conditioner. But, it won't switch into "High" and it needs a new compressor, so the AC does not work. The car is 4,200 pounds and is eighteen feet, three inches long. It's LONG! And has a wide turning ratio, too. Careful with those turns. The engine has a few hundred miles on it since its rebuild. Otherwise the car itself has over 131,000 miles. So, other than some paint chips that need filled in, it looks great. I've taken it to a lot of car shows and cruise-ins and everyone always likes the color. Not me. I think it would look better glossy black. As I said, I hate to let the old girl go, but it's time. A down payment will be required upon auction close. I can deliver it within a hundred-mile radius. If you live near the Cincinnati tristate and are interested in this old Park Lane, I urge you to visit and check it out first before you commit to buy. With the car, the winning bidder will receive the shop manual, original dealer catalogues that feature this car, a giant car cover, and the trophies the car has won at car shows. And anything else that goes with it. It doesn't have a convertible boot. This is a decent mid-1960s convertible for anyone who wants a car that's different than anyone else's. Get this car, and you'll definitely stand out at the car shows.
