Vehicle Detail

This Auction is for a 1969 Fully Restored VW Powered Dune Buggy The project was finished in Jan. of this year, Took "Best of Show Open Body" at a local TampaBay Area VW Club Show two days after the project was completed. Love driving this car around town, it handles great like driving a street legal go-cart. You wont blend in to the crowd in this car. This is a ground up restoration every part is either new or like new. The whind sheild and frame are original and the rims are what came on this car believed to be from the 1970, I liked em so I shined em up and kept em on it. The motor is a freshly rebuilt 1600cc dual port, with electronic distributor. The Custom Trailer Hitch was added to pull a Kayak trailer, a trailer hitch brake light adds safety. Mileage on vehicle is approx. since Jan. 2012 restoration completion. On Aug-20-12 at 16:27:07 PDT, seller added the following information: The Restoration:The chassis is a 1969 irs Beetle chassis. The chassis was stripped down to bare metal and shortened the required 14 1/4". A new set of pans were also shortened and welded in to place. All metal was primed and painted. The front beam was completely disassembled and a set of beam adjusters were installed. The beam was then stripped down to bare metal primed and painted. New ball joints (upper & lower), chrome tie rods and new tie rod ends installed. New grease fitting and grease seals installed. The front spindles were replaced due to some pitting and the backing plates were blasted and repainted. Both front drums were replaced with new including all bearings and seals. New brake shoes, wheel cylinders, hoses, hardware kits including adjusters and hard lines were installed. The steering box was stripped of paint, the old grease was flushed out, inspected, painted and repacked with new grease and a new steering rag joint installed with new hardware. The rear suspension trailing arms were completely disassembled, blasted, primed and painted. All four rear bearings were replaced including seal kits. Two of the four cv joints were replaced. All four were repacked and installed with new boots. The rear drums were replaced with new. All new brake shoes, hardware including adjusters, wheel cylinders, hoses and hard lines were installed. The rear trailing arms were installed with new bushings and the torsion inner and outer bushings were also replaced. The rear suspension was softened by lowering one inner notch and rides perfectly. Front and rear snubbers were replaced with new. The front trans mount was replaced with new and the rear motor mounts were replaced with new CB performance urethane. All four tires are in great shape with over 90% tread. The rims are original 14" chrome with some minor rust pits around the inner edge. The rims were retained because they kept with the nostalgic feel of this beautiful survivor. New shocks installed at all four corners.Fresh gear oil was installed in the trans axle and it shifts perfectly with the new bug pack T handle shifter with reverse lockout. The pedal assemble was disassembled, cleaned, inspected, repainted and reassembled with a new roller style gas pedal and new rubber foot pads. Original style seat tracks (welded to the pan) and lower seat frames were used so both the driver and passenger seats are fully adjustable and removable. Poly style racing buckets with color matched orange and black vinyl seat covers installed. New driver and passenger lap belts installed. The roll bar was custom made and integrates with the side bush bars for added safety and support. Custom made speakers enclosures hang from the roll bar with hidden internal wiring. New marine carpet was installed on the chassis tunnel and new 3/4" thick diamond plate look rubber mats were custom cut for the front foot area. The dash is aluminum covered with a high quality vinyl wrap with a beautiful beach photo from a beach here in Tarpon Springs Florida. Only 2 indicator lights adorn the dash along with the removable GPS / Speedo. All of this buggy's switches and its ignition are hidden just behind the lower dash for that super clean look. The entire electrical system is new. All switches and every inch or wire is new including a modern style fuse box. The steering wheel is new including its hardware and a few very cool custom touches. The steering wheel quick disconnect is brand new and a custom tunnel mounted wheel lock was installed so you can secure your steering wheel to the car and not have to carry it with you.Behind the seats you will see a beautiful black diamond plate tool box rubber mounted to the rear seat area. The poly battery box has a nice diamond plate accent and a custom color matched fire extinguisher mounted on top for easy access and a cool custom look. The new voltage regular is protected from the elements and has its own custom mount inside the battery box. The battery is new including both pos and neg cables. The motor was completely rebuilt including a new piston and cylinder set. All new bearing (cam, main and rod), new push rod tubes, all seals and gaskets. A new fuel pump, rebuilt generator, new coil and new carburetor were installed. The points are new electronic and built by comp-u-fire. The exhaust was an older cannon style that was blasted and painted with header paint. The exhaust has an internal baffle installed for that awesome deep tone. When you hear it coming down the street you really have no idea what it is. It certainly does not sound like a stock VW! The motor starts and runs perfectly and was built to be fun and reliable for many years of trouble free service. The buggy style headlight and rear tail lights are both brand new. The led engine compartment lighting and front fog / driving lights are also brand new. The rear custom made engine compartment cover is made of a high quality stainless steel with chrome hardware. Many chrome details adorn this beautiful buggy. Just enough to be tasteful and not so much to be tacky! The body of this buggy is a true survior story. First built in 1967, later restored in 1990 and then as you see it today. The original windshield and frame have the dates etched in to the aluminum by each past owner. This aluminum frame was hand sanded and polished just to save these dates and keeps its history intact. Two brand new chrome European style side view mirrors were installed along with the new frame mounted chrome rear view mirror. The paint is also new this year and resembles a mix of VW and the popular Chevy Hugger Orange. It really does pop! It is seven coats of a single stage paint to keep the nostalgic feel of the period. The buggy sides and under side are all painted with a high quality satin enamel paint and can easily be touched up and not easily noticed. On Aug-21-12 at 05:49:35 PDT, seller added the following information: Looking through some photos I remembered a few additional items worth mentioning.
